'My Hero Academia' 10th Anniversary Update Deku Is Returning to TV After Series Finale

This past weekend marked the end of My Hero Academia, one of the most widely beloved and influential anime to ever grace screens across the world. Season 8 closed out with a glimpse into the future after Izuku Midoriya delivered the final punch that finally defeated All for One and brought the Final War to its conclusion. It was a bittersweet goodbye to the now-graduated members of Class 1-A, but their story isn’t quite over just yet. The future of the series got a big preview during Jump Festa on Friday night, confirming that Toho is planning a global celebration in honor of the tenth anniversary of the anime’s premiere. Festivities will officially kick off on April 3, 2026, exactly ten years after the first episode aired in Japan.

At the center of this event will be an entirely new episode titled “More,” streaming exclusively on Crunchyroll on May 2, 2026, outside Asia. For those who noticed that the series’ apparent finale didn’t fully cover the end of Kōhei Horikoshi‘s manga, the special will remedy that, adapting the final-volume bonus chapter that shows more of Deku and his friends’ lives eight years after graduating from U.A. High School. The series so far left off with Deku settling into a role as a teacher at the academy, using his experience going from quirkless nobody to the world’s greatest hero to guide the next generation. However, thanks to the help of his former classmates and All Might, a new state-of-the-art mechanical suit was designed just for him to get back into the field, Iron Man style, and continue his childhood dream.

Aside from continuing that thread with an extra episode, the anniversary celebration will also feature a worldwide concert tour beginning on May 30. Longtime composer Yuki Hayashi‘s score, featured throughout all eight seasons of the anime and in the four feature films, will be performed live alongside iconic scenes from the show. It will first roll out in Yokohama before hitting more locations across the globe. Jump Festa also marked the debut of a new teaser visual and logo to get viewers hyped for a year celebrating My Hero Academia. Accompanying that is a new hub site featuring artwork by Yoshihiko Umakoshi that tracks Deku’s evolution and features more information on the superpowered fun to come. More anniversary news, events, and more will be unveiled as the year goes on.

‘My Hero Academia’ Lives on in Other Ways

Animated by Bones, My Hero Academia will go out as a defining superhero show that rivaled the Big Three as one of Shōnen Jump’s most popular properties. It’s not entirely the end, though. The spin-off prequel anime, My Hero Academia: Vigilantes, is set to return for Season 2 in January after having earned rave reviews with its introduction to a new team of unsanctioned heroes. Recently, it was also revealed that Netflix’s long-gestating live-action film adaptation would finally begin filming in fall 2026. Alice in Borderland‘s Sato Shinsuke will be at the helm with a script penned by It: Welcome to Derry co-creator Jason Fuchs.

Expect further updates and more news surrounding My Hero Academia after the tenth anniversary celebration kicks off on April 3. In the meantime, all episodes of the anime are available to stream on Netflix, Hulu, and Crunchyroll in select regions. Stay tuned here at Collider for more throughout the event.
