No other actor in Hollywood can claim to have a year lined up like Jon Bernthal. Starting 2026 as he means to go on, the star of His & Hers has spent most of January at the top of Netflix’s streaming charts. He’s set to feature heavily in both of the two biggest blockbusters of the summer.
If that’s not enough, Bernthal has his own TV special due to come out later in the year. Let’s start at the beginning, though, with the Netflix miniseries that’s unexpectedly made him and Tessa Thompson the top streaming stars on television for 2026 so far. His & Hers is far from Jon Bernthal’s best TV show, but it’s still irresistibly gripping.
Nevertheless, the sensational success of this streaming release is arguably an added bonus in what was already set to be a bumper year for Bernthal. From now until the summer, he can afford to have a few quiet months out of the spotlight, before appearing in two of 2026’s most anticipated movies when they’re both released in July.
Jon Bernthal Has Started 2026 As #1 On The Netflix Chart
As of January 29, His & Hers remains Netflix’s number 1 TV show worldwide, and has only just dropped down to number 2 in the United States. It’s been the standout streaming hit of 2026 so far, and Bernthal’s characteristically emotive performance as Detective Jack Harper has had a major hand in its chart-topping triumph.
Once Danny Brocklehurst’s latest Harlan Coben adaptation Run Away had knocked Stranger Things off the number 1 spot just after the turn of the year, His & Hers quickly overtook both shows. This atmospheric mystery thriller keeps audiences guessing across its six episodes, while Bernthal’s down-to-earth screen presence helps to ground its plot.
Bernthal’s Biggest 2026 Releases Are Still To Come
In a few months’ time, though, the actor’s Netflix role will be relegated to the back of people’s minds, as his unpredictable turns in two of the year’s biggest releases take center stage. Bernthal’s look for Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey has already been revealed, and has us almost as excited as the thought of Matt Damon battling a cyclops.
Nolan has cast him as Menelaus, the brother of Agamemnon and the husband of Helen of Troy. It’s a very different proposition from any performance we’ve seen Bernthal give before, and is among the movie’s most tantalizing prospects.
Meanwhile, he’ll also feature in the cast of Spider-Man: Brand New Day as his Marvel antihero Frank Castle, otherwise known as the Punisher. This film will mark his big-screen debut in the role. Bernthal is then expected to return as the character later in 2026, for a TV special on Disney+ which he himself is helping to write.
The Odyssey & Brand New Day Could Be The Year’s Biggest Movies
Given Marvel’s domination of box office rankings in 2024 and 2025, and the explosive impact of Christopher Nolan’s last movie on ticket sales in 2023, it’s safe to assume that The Odyssey and Brand New Day will be duking it out to be this summer’s biggest blockbuster smash. In fact, they’re likely to become 2026’s two most successful movies.
If this prediction does transpire, then Jon Bernthal will have fronted one of the year’s biggest streaming hits, and played a key part in its two biggest theatrical releases. This level of success for one actor in a single year is almost unprecedented. It’s official, then. 2026 will be the year of Jon Bernthal.
