Ever since Netflix announced the Virgin River season 7 release date earlier this year, fans have been counting down the minutes and seconds until Mel and Jack return on March 12. After all, we have a seemingly endless list of questions to be answered by the upcoming episodes!
Thankfully, ahead of the show’s return this spring, Netflix shared one more surprise up its sleeve for fans. On Feb. 9, the streaming service revealed the first footage from season 7 with the official trailer in addition to a number of first-look photos from the episodes. However, the trailer seemingly spoils at least one of our lingering questions from season 6 about Mel and Jack’s parenthood journey.
Virgin River season 7 trailer reveals Mel and Jack’s baby decision
As you will remember, Mel was approached by Marley in the season 6 finale to adopt her baby when the other parents fell through. In the Virgin River season 7 trailer, Mel and Jack excitedly and eagerly anticipate adopting Marley’s baby and becoming parents as they have apparently accepted her offer. They make the final touched on their new farmhouse and prepare for the arrival of their child.
“This is the end of one chapter and the beginning of another,” Mel says in the trailer after she and Jack smile ear to ear, beaming that they’re going to have a baby. However, the trailer also suggests that the process won’t be as cut and dry as decorating a nursery and becoming a family. Later in the trailer, Marley appears to get cold feet, leaving Mel and Jack to wait and see what happens.
After everything they have been through in the process to starting a family together, would the series actually bring Mel and Jack this close to have a baby again and then rip their joy right out from under them again? Luckily, the answer to that question isn’t definitively answered by the trailer and remains to be seen in season 7. But we’re hopeful that Mel and Jack will be parents before season 8 rolls around.
Elsewhere in the trailer, Mel spins a globe and chooses their surprise honeymoon destination with her eyes closed, but that thrill of romance isn’t shared by the rest of her friends. Following her shocking proposal from Mike, Brie appears to be a bit sad and leans on Brady at the bar. Doc worries about the road ahead with his career after his professionalism has been called into question.
Keeping the unease alive, Kaia questions her own relationship with Preacher and what their future holds, and Doc looks to be getting jealous of Hope’s friendship with another man. But the most devastating moments of the trailer pick up with Lizzy after giving birth to her baby. Denny tries to support her and stay by her side as she navigates the impacts of postpartum depression.
Get ready for another season full of unexpected twists, heartwarming moments, and emotional storytelling that will no doubt have us bawling our eyes out before the end of episode 1. Below we shared a number of new images from Virgin River season 7 released by Netflix, but don’t worry. These photos don’t give away of the season’s story as the trailer.
