Set in the Russo brothers’ explosive Extraction universe, Netflix has since been working on a spin-off series that received an eight-episode order earlier in February. Glen Mazzara was confirmed as showrunner with only one cast member revealed: Omar Sy leading as Kalidou Diallo. While we await further casting updates, the streaming giant has unveiled a few character details, only four months before the show reportedly gets into production in Morocco.
Per What’s on Netflix, seven new characters have been announced, beginning with Kevin Porter, a former US Marine who is also a mentor and close friend of Kalidou Diallo. Kevin is the current head of security for an important oil field in Libya, and “when militants attack the oil field, he becomes imperative to the defense and evacuation.” Another character in the Extraction show is Roger Ward, an important executive of the company who owns the Libyan oil field and finds himself at the center of the militant attack after leading a surprise visit.
Additionally, the series will see Sy’s character have a fiancée named Amina, his “rock and anchor.” Two more executives, the engaged Veer Banerjee and the pregnant Priscilla “Cilla” Ragab, are also part of the action thriller, who find themselves taken hostage after the militant attack. Lastly, Hamza Najjar is the charismatic leader of the militant group with a haunted past, who is determined to fight threats domestically and abroad, while Clayton Wisper is the morally ambiguous CEO of Wisper Group, who prioritizes corporate assets over human lives in crises.
As the follow-up to the first two Extraction movies led by Chris Hemsworth and released in 2020 and 2023, respectively, the upcoming show will undoubtedly be as intense and unpredictable. According to the official logline, it follows Sy’s character, a mercenary, as he “navigates a dangerous mission to rescue hostages in Libya. Trapped between warring factions and ruthless killers, the series delves into the emotional struggles of conflicted and flawed characters, each facing trauma, betrayal, and life-or-death choices.”
Joe and Anthony Russo will return as executive producers of the Extraction series, and are joined by Angela Russo-Otstot, Chris Castaldi, Sam Hargraves, Scott Nemes, Peter Schwerin, and Eric Gitter. The Russo Brothers’ production, AGBO, is producing the film with filming scheduled to begin in Morocco this December and expected to conclude in mid-2026.
The upcoming action series has no premiere date yet, but do stay tuned to Collider for more news about the Extraction franchise.
