Netflix’s ‘Gossip Girl’ Meets ‘Pride and Prejudice’ Series Is So Good, It Was Renewed Twice Before It Premiered

While many shows force fans to wait months to hear if there will be another season, the most popular are renewed before their current season ends. But it takes a special series to confirm another season before the current one even begins, and Bridgerton is one of these rare shows. Ahead of Season 4’s release, Netflix promised Seasons 5 and 6, demonstrating just how unique the period romance is. Though this early renewal isn’t entirely shocking given the series’ staggering popularity, the choice proves that Netflix is betting on Bridgerton‘s future, giving fans a rare sense of security.

With its swoon-worthy story and unconventional relationship with history, Bridgerton quickly caught attention after its 2020 release. These elements set the series apart and attracted a wide audience, but the story convinces them to stay. The early announcement of the next two seasons gives fans much to look forward to, especially as the audience already knows which siblings will take the lead in the upcoming installments. As it continues to deliver compelling romance arcs for the various Bridgerton siblings, the Netflix drama earns each new season, and that is why the streamer is so confident in its upcoming installments.

No Other Period Drama Is Like ‘Bridgerton’

While many hope to duplicate Bridgerton‘s success, there is no show like it. The Netflix series takes advantage of its historical fiction status by not leaning too far into accuracy. Though it explores the Regency period, Bridgerton makes deliberate choices that distinguish it from reality, in both fashion and casting, giving it a freedom that few series embrace. With a bright color palette, the show is instantly recognizable even among the period romance genre. Yet, more famously, the period drama rejects accuracy regarding race. Creating an alternate history where nobles come from all backgrounds, Bridgerton includes a diverse cast of England’s elite, which period dramas rarely offer. It’s a unique take that fans clearly cannot get enough of.

Your Universe Has Been Chosen
You Belong In…

Your answers point to the iconic universe your values, your instincts, and your particular way of seeing the world were built for. This is where you would find your people — and your purpose.

A Galaxy Far, Far Away

Star Wars

You believe in the cause — in the idea that freedom is worth fighting for even when the odds are impossible and the empire is vast.

  • You are drawn to the moral clarity of a universe where hope itself is a form of resistance.
  • You’d find your people in the Rebellion — a ragtag coalition of true believers held together by conviction more than resources.
  • Star Wars is fundamentally a story about ordinary people choosing to matter in an extraordinary conflict — and that is exactly your kind of story.
  • The Force may or may not be with you. But the will to use it for something larger than yourself certainly is.

Middle-earth

Lord of the Rings

You understand, in the deepest part of yourself, that the journey matters as much as the destination — and that the world’s beauty is worth protecting even at great cost.

  • Middle-earth is a world of ancient wonder, deep friendship, and a darkness that only retreats when enough small acts of courage accumulate.
  • You would thrive here because you value the fellowship more than the glory — the road more than the arrival.
  • Tolkien’s universe rewards patience, loyalty, and the willingness to carry something heavy across a very long distance.
  • Those are not burdens to you. They are simply how you move through the world.

The Wizarding World

Harry Potter

You believe that love, loyalty, and doing what’s right are not naive sentiments — they are the most powerful forces in any world, magical or otherwise.

  • The Wizarding World is a place of wonder hidden in plain sight, where learning is transformative and the bonds you form at school follow you into every battle.
  • You would flourish here because you take both the magic and the friendships seriously — and you understand that one without the other is incomplete.
  • Harry Potter’s universe ultimately rewards those who choose to stand for something even when standing is terrifying.
  • That choice — made quietly, without guarantee — is something you understand completely.

Westeros · The Known World

Game of Thrones

You see the world clearly — its power structures, its hypocrisies, its brutal arithmetic — and you are not paralysed by that clarity. You use it.

  • Westeros is a world that rewards intelligence, adaptability, and the willingness to understand that every alliance is also a negotiation.
  • You would survive here — possibly thrive here — because you don’t confuse the world as it is with the world as you’d like it to be.
  • Game of Thrones is a story about what happens when the idealists and the realists collide. You are sharp enough to know which one lasts longer.
  • Winter always comes. You are already prepared.

The United Federation of Planets

Star Trek

You believe the future is worth building — that curiosity, cooperation, and the expansion of understanding are not just ideals but the most practical path forward for any civilisation.

  • Star Trek is a universe where the questions matter as much as the answers, and where encountering something utterly alien is cause for wonder rather than fear.
  • You would belong here because you are fundamentally optimistic about what intelligence and decency can achieve — while being honest about how hard that achievement is.
  • The Federation is the universe’s most ambitious thought experiment: what if we actually got better?
  • You don’t just hope that’s possible. You think it’s the only thing worth working toward.

Just as Bridgerton doesn’t rely on strictly accurate history, it also intentionally deviates from the source material. Though based on Julia Quinn‘s novels, Bridgerton is unafraid to make changes, setting itself further apart in the genre. With gender-bent characters, added drama, and new characters, the series tells an exciting story that can surprise even book readers. Perhaps the biggest change is the addition of Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel), who has become a fan favorite, justifying her inclusion. With bold moves like that, Bridgerton has made a name for itself. As it focuses on the gossip of the ton and the love lives of the Bridgertons, the Netflix show manages to create a near-fairytale romance that keeps the audience coming back.

‘Bridgerton’s Early Season Renewals Are the Best Thing for the Show

There is no denying that Bridgerton‘s strategy has worked. After all, it’s one of Netflix’s most recognizable shows, which is why the streamer is so quick to decide its future. With many series being cancelled prematurely, this is a huge win for fans, especially as there is still so much story to tell. With four seasons, the show has only adapted half of Quinn’s books. Seasons 5 and 6 will adapt the next two books in the series, which gives readers some idea of what is in store as the show continues. With Francesca (Hannah Dodd) and then Eloise (Claudia Jessie) taking the lead, viewers will get more of their fan-favorite characters, giving the audience something to look forward to.

Not only is the quick renewal of these seasons a vote of confidence in the story, but it also offers a way to fix the show’s biggest problem. Bridgerton‘s long breaks between seasons have long been a point of frustration for fans, with roughly two years, and sometimes more, between installments. Understandably, the massive production takes time, but the audience is impatient. However, the ability to plan ahead will shorten the wait. Already, Season 5 is planned for 2027, which will break the multi-year hiatus between seasons pattern for the first time. While Bridgerton has no issue attracting an audience, shortening the wait will keep the show’s momentum up and keep fans happy. Bridgerton‘s undeniable success sets it apart as much as the story does, and fortunately, audiences will be able to enjoy the series for years to come.
