Neve Campbell will have a smaller role in The Lincoln Lawyer season 2

Scream queen and talented actress Neve Campbell has landed an exciting new role in an upcoming ABC drama series called Avalon, reports Deadline. She’ll re-team with executive producer David E. Kelley on the series, but what does it mean for her role as criminal prosecutor Maggie McPherson in The Lincoln Lawyer season 2?

Unfortunately, it sounds like being the series lead on a new series means that Campbell will be forced to take a smaller role in the successful Netflix legal drama. Like The Lincoln Lawyer, Avalon is also based on a Michael Connelly work, albeit a short story.

Avalon has received a straight-to-series order from ABC, which isn’t too surprising since Kelley is already working with the network on the other crime procedural show Big Sky. Campbell will play L.A. Sheriff’s Department Detective Nicole “Nic” Searcy, head of a small office that servies more than 1 million tourists every year in the city of Avalon on Catalina Island.

With so many people coming and going every day on the ferries, there are always new stories being brought into the city and Nic soon gets pulled into a career-defining mystery that will test her moral compass.

According to the Deadline article that reported on the actress landing the lead in Avalon, she will also now be a “recurring guest star” in The Lincoln Lawyer season 2.

Considering she had her own storyline in the show’s first season, it is a little disappointing that she probably won’t have as many scenes or as significant of a role in the second season, but we’re happy she’s still coming back!

Campbell has, now-famously, exited the Scream franchise ahead of the sixth film, which is currently filming because she felt she wasn’t be paid her worth after starring in the franchise across five films (and we fully support her!). It sounds like television has become a better fit for her right now between The Lincoln Lawyer, Avalon and her upcoming role in the Peacock series Twisted Metal—adapted from the video game franchise of the same name.
