Just when you think you’re out, they pull you back in. Animal Crossing: New Horizons is getting a huge new update in the new year, but ahead of that Nintendo has another little treat in store.
Gamers will probably be aware that Nintendo announced a massive surprise at the end of last month, confirming Animal Crossing: New Horizons is getting a major 3.0 update. By all accounts, this is a beast of an update with a huge raft of new features, but we have to wait a little while yet for it to land. In the meantime, there’s something else you can claim.

But you don’t have forever
From now until December 1, Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 gamers can claim three free Animal Crossing-themed icons for Nintendo Switch Online. It might not be the most exciting freebie in the world, but it’s definitely something to get us in the mood for that impending 3.0 update.
To claim these icons, all you need to do is boot up your Switch and head over to the Nintendo Switch Online tab. It’s easy enough to navigate from there and grab the avatars you want.
Other icons currently available include a special selection of Mario-themed avatars, and a new batch based on Kirby Air Riders to celebrate the launch of the brand-new racing game.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is going seriously large with the January update. There are a ton of new items coming to the game, including clothing and furniture based on The Legend Of Zelda series. New features include the ability to create multiple islands per device, the ability to play classic Nintendo games, and a special hotel where you can look after various guests and earn special rewards.
Basically, you’ll want to mark your calendars for January 15 and forget about any New Year’s Resolutions you might have made in regards to running more or whatever. Animal Crossing is waiting to take over our lives once again, and nobody is safe.
