Despite only releasing less than a year ago, Nick Frost‘s folk horror/comedy Get Away has already fallen under many people’s radars. Also starring the effortlessly funny Aisling Bea, Heartstopper’s Sebastian Croft, and young actress Maisie Ayres, Get Away opened to positive reviews and earned a strong, “certified fresh” 76% critics’ score on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes. Now, 10 months on from its festival debut at Fantastic Fest, Get Away is finally a streaming hit in America.
Officially, as of July 21, 2025, Get Away is one of the ten most-streamed movies on Hulu in the US. Directed by Steffen Haars, the movie joins many other bigger-budget titles currently topping the Hulu charts as it punches above its weight on streaming. This includes the likes of Denzel Washington and Antoine Fuqua’s explosive The Equalizer 3, John Travolta and Gina Gershon‘s sleeper hit High Rollers, and the brand-new sci-fi flick The Assessment starring the trio of Elizabeth Olsen, Alicia Vikander, and Himesh Patel. Currently at the top of Hulu’s movie rankings is the Rami Malek-led The Amateur. For those who haven’t seen Get Away, below is a look at the synopsis:
“The Smith family’s much-needed vacation to the remote Swedish island of Svalta takes a dark turn when they arrive during preparations for a mysterious local festival that celebrates a dark history. Unsettled by the unfriendly locals and strange rituals, they try to make the best of their trip, stubbornly enjoying the island’s isolation and natural beauty. However, as the festival looms closer, the family realizes something far more sinister is unfolding–especially when they discover that a serial killer is on the loose.”
‘Get Away’ Is “More Than Meets the Eye”
A cast of talented performers and a premise sure to grab attention don’t always lead to critical success. Get Away, thankfully, avoided this potential upset by living up to its high potential and drawing strong reviews from critics, even if audiences on Rotten Tomatoes didn’t seem to agree, with just 47%. Reviewing the movie back at the 2024 Fantastic Fest, Collider’s Matthew Donato awarded the film a strong 7/10, saying, “Get Away is a deceptive blast that properly exploits vacationer stereotypes to conceal vastly more wicked intentions,” before adding, “From top to bottom, the Smith foursome shines in performative moments when stacked against more rigid local caricatures.”
Get Away is currently available to stream on Hulu. Make sure to stay tuned to Collider for more streaming stories.
