Some players have discovered a clever technique to avoid fall damage in Dragon’s Dogma 2. As is the case with many games, while small drops don’t cause harm, players will lose health or die depending on the height at which they fall in the game. Fortunately, the game’s pawn system – which grants players the option to have their friends’ custom characters used to form a party despite the game being a single-player adventure – seems to have come to the rescue.
Fall damage doesn’t seem to change regardless of how much armor a player has equipped, and is entirely dependent on the height to which they’ve fallen.
As pointed out by Calcifiera on the Dragon’s Dogma 2 subreddit, pawns can catch players should they fall from a height in their direction. Calcifiera describes their accidental discovery of this by saying about how they were playing as a lady sorcerer levitating around and fell straight into the arms of their boyfriend’s pawn, who they described as a “tall hunky elf man fighter“, resulting in what they called “a stereotypical straight teen girl’s dreamy boy situation“.

Does Dragon’s Dogma 2 Have Multiplayer? DD2 Pawn System Explained
Dragon’s Dogma 2 has some multiplayer features, but they’re not as intuitive or simple as traditional co-op. Here’s how the Pawn system works.
Some More Devious Players Are Using This Feature To Their Advantage
Deeming It The “Yeet And Catch” Technique
Some more devious Dragon’s Dogma 2 players have begun using this feature to their advantage through what they’ve described as the “yeet and catch” technique. As pointed out by Redditor Background-Wear-1626, this sees players throwing pawns into areas that would normally cause fall damage, healing them with magic, and then jumping in afterward, only for the pawn to safely catch the player and gently place them on the ground.
Many other Redditors took to Background-Wear-1626’s post, which included a video of the technique in action, to quote and paraphrase an often repeated line from pawns in the game, “I suffered many injustices under this Arisen’s hands“. It’s worth noting, however, that harming another person’s pawn can scar them, something that they will need to then fix by paying 1000 in gold to visit the volcanic hot springs, as pointed out by upuaut2 on the Steam Community page for the game, so players should only try the “yeet and catch” technique on pawns whose owners they don’t mind annoying, or their own creations.
Considering the size of the game’s map it’s understandable why some have turned to the “yeet and catch” technique to help traverse areas fairly quickly. Regardless of how morally dubious it may be, it is certainly a clever workaround to Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s fall damage.
