One of the Most Influential DC Shows Ever Made Hits a Bullseye on Digital

Even with the smash success of James Gunn‘s DCU, particularly with its blockbuster last summer, Superman, fans are still reaching for past iterations of their famous heroes, maybe in hopes of seeing them in the DCU some day. With that, the CW show, Arrow is the number 1 series on iTunes in the U.S. Arrow ran for eight seasons, beginning in 2012, and starred Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen, aka The Green Arrow. The series’ success went on to birth an entire franchise, nicknamed The Arrowverse. Other CW DCTV shows followed, such as The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Black Lightning, Superman & Lois, Stargirl, and Supergirl (though the latter first aired on CBS).

Arrow and the other DCTV shows were the strongest DC Comics adaptations, as the DCEU often saw box office failure in comparison to the MCU. With the conclusion of Superman & Lois, the Arrowverse finally came to a close for good in late 2024. Arrow followed Oliver, who returns home after being stranded at sea during a shipwreck (which also exposes his dalliance with his girlfriend’s sister). As Oliver begins to rebuild his life, he also takes serving justice to Starling City into his own hands. The official logline for Arrow is as follows:

“When presumed-dead billionaire playboy Oliver Queen returns home to Starling City after five years stranded on a remote island in the Pacific, he hides the ways the experience has changed him. As he reconnects with those closest to him, including his sister, Thea, Oliver appears to be the same wealthy, carefree bachelor they’ve always known. At night, flanked by his devoted friend, Diggle, Oliver uses his secret persona — that of a vigilante — to right societal wrongs and transform the city to its former glory.”

Could Fans See DCTV in the DCU?

For longtime DC Comics fans, they’re chomping at the bit to see what James Gunn and Peter Safran do next in terms of the DCU. In addition to the success of Superman, starring David Corenswet, there will also be the upcoming Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow starring Millie Alock that debuts this summer. The DCU also has several series in the works, including Lanterns, expected sometime this year, starring Aaron Pierre and Kyle Chandler. With such a robust plan in place, some DCTV alums are all for popping up, even if they’re not reprising their role. Elizabeth Tulloch from Superman & Lois told Collider last year:

“I’ve been very publicly pro-James Gunn and Peter Safran. I know them both. I think very highly of both of them. They’re both really smart. I think James Gunn is a visionary. I would be so happy to show up in the DC Extended Universe in whatever capacity they’d have me.”

But who would she play? Well, she’s got an answer for that too. She told Collider:

“Oh, Catwoman. It’s funny, too, because Tyler’s answer is always Batman. The other thing that’s funny is my husband, David Giuntoli, who’s an actor, who’s on Grimm, he’s voiced Batman and a few of the DC animated movies. So, it’s kind of fun to say I’m married to Batman and Superman.”
