Oscar Isaac Is Reconsidering a Star Wars Return Until Disney Learns How Not to "Succumb to Fascism"

Earlier this year, Oscar Isaac finally publicly reversed his stance on reprising his role as Poe Dameron in the Star Wars universe after long affirming that he had no interest in returning to a galaxy far, far away. The door was open for a reunion with Disney in the actor’s mind, namely, if there was a worthwhile story to tell that he felt satisfied with for his daring X-wing pilot. However, that stance was once again complicated when the entertainment giant decided to suspend Jimmy Kimmel Live! back in September, amid public pressure from the FCC chair over the host’s comments related to the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Isaac was among the many who vehemently disagreed with the company’s actions and, in a new interview with GQ, which took place just days after Kimmel was preempted, he said it was a major roadblock to his returning to work with Disney.

“I’d be open to it, although right now I’m not so open to working with Disney,” he said. “But if they can kinda figure it out and, you know, not succumb to fascism, that would be great.” Kimmel’s show was restored just a few days after the conversation, though not before a massive public outcry, including protests and calls for boycotts throughout the industry. Other members of the Star Wars universe, like Pedro Pascal, Diego Luna, and Emmy-winning Andor writer Dan Gilroy, were very outspoken in their outrage over what they saw as, at worst, an “evil” decision from Disney that created major concerns over freedom of speech in the country. Now that everything’s resolved, though, Isaac may be a bit more willing to listen to what the House of Mouse has to say. “But if that happens, then yeah, I’d be open to having a conversation about a galaxy far away. Or any number of other things.”
