Scott Lang being choked by Kang in Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania

As audiences gear up for Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Paul Rudd addresses fan concerns that Scott Lang will die in the Phase 5 opener.

Paul Rudd addresses fan concerns that Scott Lang will die in the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Peyton Reed’s Ant-Man trilogy began back in 2015 and introduced Rudd as its titular hero alongside Evangeline Lilly’s Hope van Dyne. As well as kicking off the much-anticipated Phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will also serve as the closing installment of this trilogy, with the scope of Ant-Man’s future within the MCU currently unknown. Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will see Scott come face-to-face with Jonathan Majors’ Kang, the mighty villain who is set to wreak havoc in the MCU as it now enters the second act of its Multiverse Saga.

Speaking with Empire Magazine for their newest issue, Rudd addresses recent fan concern that Ant-Man will die in Quantumania. He quells any concerns by offering his two cents, stating, “I think there’s more story to tell here.” When asked about the possibility of Scott taking over as leader of the Avengers in the post-Endgame world, given Ant-Man will have a lot of knowledge of Kang after this movie, Rudd deflects: “They’re having those conversations in rooms that I don’t have keys to.

Why Ant-Man Could Actually Die In Quantumania

Jonathan Majors As Kang in Ant-Man 3 Trailer

The recent release of the Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania trailer sparked some major concern across social media, as it not only showed Scott meeting Kang but also engaging in hand-to-hand combat with the powerful villain. With Kang set to be the Thanos-level threat of Phase 5 and Phase 6 of the MCU, it’s unlikely that Scott would be able to survive in single-combat, should the villain wish to kill him. This, compounded with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania serving as the closing installment of the trilogy, has left many concerned that Phase 5 could kick off with the loss of one of its fan-favorite heroes.

With Kathryn Newton now stepping into the MCU spotlight as Scott’s daughter Cassie Lang, some have speculated that her young hero could be lined up to take over from her father. Much of this concern surrounding Scott’s fate in Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania comes from the uncertainty of just how Ant-Man will fit into the MCU’s phases going forward. There is ample opportunity for the pint-sized hero to become a major player, particularly if he makes it out of Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania alive, and with knowledge of Kang’s intentions. While there’s no denying Scott’s chances aren’t looking too good, there is always a possibility that Kang could spare him as part of his master plan.

With less than a month to go now until Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania finally hits theaters, there isn’t long until audiences learn Scott’s fate. Rudd’s comments are certainly positive and are likely to ease some concerns, although seasoned MCU fans will be more than aware that the Marvel stars are no stranger to lying or bending the truth in order to protect spoilers. Rudd, however, is certainly right that there are plenty more Ant-Man stories to tell within the MCU, although for now, the hero’s future all depends on how he fares against Kang.
