PlayStation's New 100+ Hour RPG Is Free, No PS Plus Required

If you’re looking to kick off 2026 with a bang, PlayStation is rolling out a huge new console-exclusive. This RPG promises to take over hundreds of hours of our lives, and is completely free to play. Oh, and to be very clear, you don’t need PlayStation Plus for this one, so you really can dive in without spending a penny.

Over on the PlayStation Blog, it was officially confirmed that January 22 will see Arknights: Endfield hit PlayStation 5 following a successful beta over December. This expansive RPG is a console exclusive for PS5, but it’ll also be available on PC and mobile devices with cross-save functionality.

Arkknights: Endfield Looks Like The Real Deal

I’m pretty excited to dive in

PlayStation New Hardware

If this one hasn’t been on your radar, Arknights: Endfield is an upcoming free-to-play RPG that looks like it’ll be one for Genshin Impact fans. It’s actually based on the world of the 2019 mobile tower defense game Arknights, which itself already has a popular anime adaptation.

The play-test for Endfield gave players access to around 50 to 60 hours of gameplay, but those who went hands-on reported easily losing around 100 hours to it. And that was just a play-test. Basically, you may want to get your affairs in order, because you won’t be going outside for a while.

Here’s the game’s official synopsis:

“Set in the universe of the hit mobile game Arknights, Arknights: Endfield introduces a new immersive story and a frontier world filled with exploration, real-time combat, and base-building. Players will command teams of up to four operators, all of whom will be fighting along their side simultaneously, allowing for skill combos, elemental synergies, and other coordinated strategies.”

PlayStation 5 Exclusive Features

Clearly the place to play

Arknights: Endfield developer Hypergryph explained that the game was designed with the PlayStation 5 in mind. As such, you can expect a bunch of PlayStation 5-exclusive bells and whistles to help make the game feel that much more immersive.

“On PS5, Arknights: Endfield fully supports the DualSense controller, including haptic feedback, adaptive triggers, the built-in speaker, and light bar effects,” confirmed Light Zhong, co-founder and director at Hypergraph. “The game also features 3D Audio support, helping bring Talos-II’s environments to life, and Activities integration for the main story to help you jump back into key moments quickly.”

So, if you need something new to play on PlayStation 5 this month, go ahead and mark your calendars for January 22.
