Pokémon GO Gigantamax Lapras Max Battle Day Guide

Gigantamax Lapras returns to Pokémon GO for its latest Max Battle Day, but you need to be prepared if you want to have a chance to catch this powerful opponent. The Gigantamax Lapras Day is Saturday, July 19, with the event running between 2pm and 5pm local time.

Gigantamax Pokémon can only be used in certain situations in Pokémon GO, but they are some of the hardest to catch due to their ridiculously high CP. While the event is taking place, they will be the only Pokémon available in Power Spots. When Gigantamax were launched in Pokémon GO, they were nearly impossible to beat, but as long as you use the right counters, you can now come out on top.

Four Key Weaknesses To Target

Gigantamax Lapras is a Water- and Ice-type Pokémon, like the regular version, meaning it has four weaknesses that you can attack. Lapras is weak to Grass-, Electric-, Fighting- and Rock-type attacks. It’s vital to use Pokémon with these types of attacks in your team to have a chance of overcoming Lapras.

Thankfully, on the other side of types, Gigantamax Lapras only resists two types of Pokémon attacks. These are its own two types — water and ice. While you should ideally only be using super-effective attack types, you should always avoid using these two types, or you will barely do any damage at all.

Gigantamax Lapras Best Counters In Pokémon GO

Gigantamax And Dynamax Pokémon Required

Thankfully, Gigantamax Lapras is now much easier to defeat than it was back when it debuted in 2024. For Gigantamax Battles, you can only use Gigantamax or Dynamax Pokémon, but the pool of options has greatly expanded in recent months, with viable options for all four types that are super-effective against Lapras.

The best attacking Pokémon by far is Gigantamax Rillaboom. The Pure-Grass type is super-effective against Lapras, and all of its moves will be able to deal a lot of damage quickly, making it the best option of its type currently available. If you have any other Grass-, Fighting-, or Electric-type Gigantamax Pokémon these should be included in your line-up of three. Gigantamax Machamp, Gigantamax Venusaur, and Gigantamax Toxtricity are also great counters against Gigantamax Lapras and are capable of doing the required damage.

Teamwork is key to taking Gigantamax Lapras down, as even with a team of perfect counters, you need to work together to have a chance of beating it.

I have found that at least ten trainers are needed, but it can now be taken on using remote raid passes to make finding other players easier. Gigantamax Lapras is one of the most powerful options available in Pokémon GO, so you should look to defeat it on this Max Battle Day.
