After recently dishing out their least favorite kitchen appliance, Jonathan and Drew Scott recently made some shocking revelations about home improvement, what they try to avoid, and who has the best style of the two. Of course, most of the Celebrity IOU stars’ musings were in jest, but is there a world where a Property Brothers home would sprout flowers behind a toilet?
Property Brothers Roast Tiny Homes, Crocodile Pranks & Toilet Flowers in Chaotic TikTok Q&A
The brothers took on the Street Hearts with Tiff challenge, where they played in a rapid-fire Q&A on TikTok. While they shared their disdain for tiny homes and the alleged design trend in which individuals allegedly put flowers in the back of a toilet, Tiff asked the brothers, “Even if a client asks, what is something you will never put into a house?”
Drew believed his brother would never put a wood-burning fireplace in his home, while Jonathan laughed as he said, “I just gave up.” It was later revealed that Drew once pranked his brother by putting a live crocodile into a room he renovated for him. With a large catalog of series, surely a tiny home-centric series is not in their future. Much like many design elements they’ve previously frowned upon, including bold countertops, adding paint color to items that absolutely do not need it, and utilizing relative gifts like pieces of furniture.
Despite their insistence, Drew and Jonathan have caved to their clients. During an episode of Property Brothers: Forever Home, they used feng shui to help homeowners Florence and Humberto. Working with feng shui expert Laura Cerrano, the brothers were forced to make some design choices they wouldn’t necessarily make themselves. This involved adjusting the home’s layout by knocking down walls and relocating certain kitchen appliances to non-traditional prep spaces. In the end, Jonathan revealed, “The more I learn about feng shui, the more interesting it is and the more I want to learn.”
The Property Brothers Find Home Renovation “Maddening”
Before anyone can embark on a renovation, Jonathan and Drew advise being completely ready and prepared, which is a major factor in how they frame their series, Don’t Hate Your House with the Property Brothers. Jonathan told CNBC homeowners need to first ask: “Am I in the right location? Can this home make my life easier? Is there enough space for all of our family as it grows?”
They also recommend hiring an expert instead of doing the work yourself. One major culprit stemmed from their father’s love of DIY. When speaking with Parade Home and Garden, Drew revealed he would work on drywall for a month, which wound up only looking “okay.” Thankfully, with experts in the family, Jonathan and Drew renovated their parents’ Santa Monica home in the show’s inaugural season.
Speaking to Collider regarding Don’t Hate Your House with the Property Brothers, Jonathan commented on the drama surrounding the drama of a renovation. “Anyone who’s done renovation can appreciate how maddening it can be — you wanna rip your hair out,” he revealed. “But everybody has a completely different problem that they need to solve.” With hundreds upon hundreds of renovations to their name, the brothers are still holding strong to their passion for helping homeowners find comfort in their homes.
