Set during 1911 in fictionalized versions of the American West and Mexico, Red Dead Redemption is as memorable for its setting as it is for its story and characters. However, with its sequel (but technically prequel), Red Dead Redemption 2, choosing to skip a visit to Mexico, players were left feeling disappointed not to see a new-and-improved version of some of the iconic locations visited by John Marston years previously.
As such, a group of talented modders have come together to bring Mexico to Red Dead Redemption 2 in the Red Dead Redemption 2: Nuevo Paraiso mod. However, fans of the hit Rockstar title have been left feeling divided over its inclusion.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Players Can Finally Visit Mexico
With the mod aiming to remake part of the Nuevo Paraiso map from Red Dead Redemption and port it to Red Dead Redemption 2, players can expect remade cities and peds despite the mod currently being in an unfinished state. However, with the team still working on it and even releasing teaser trailers to show off its progress, there is no denying that the iconic location looks absolutely stunning in Red Dead Redemption 2’s stunning engine.
The Red Dead Redemption 2: Nuevo Paraiso mod has already racked up an impressive 140,000+ downloads, which is quite an impressive feat considering that it is still a work-in-progress. As such, it is clear to see that fans are eager for more ways to build upon the RPG aspects of Red Dead Redemption 2 by linking it to the beloved prequel. If you are still unsure, this is what the Nuevo Paraiso team has to say about the mod:
“Every town, settlement, and camp has been meticulously created to capture the essence of Mexico, with new vegetation for each region, clean roads and trails, new locations, and immersive landscapes brought to life by the natural movements of its inhabitants as they go about their daily lives. The army patrols the borders, and in some places, secrets and remnants of the past remain. Discover new secrets, new secondary missions, and unique locations that expand the game world without losing its core identity.
Every detail has been carefully considered to perfectly match the atmosphere, lighting, and tone of Red Dead Redemption 2, offering a seamless and coherent experience that stays true to the canon. With new areas to explore, adapted mechanics, and a completely recreated world, this mod will encourage everyone to return to Mexico and rediscover how the state was like in the year 1907.”
Not Every Red Dead Fan Is On Board With This Mod
Despite the scope of this ambitious mod, it seems as though not every Red Dead fan is on board with the idea and took to Twitter to share their thoughts on the ongoing project. “Looks great! But sadly…” one user commented, alongside a gif depicting what we can imagine are Rockstar’s and Take-Two Interactive’s legal team offering a cease and desist on the project. As one fan puts, “Why the f**k do these people keep announcing these mods knowing that T2 will take them down?”
However, amongst the cease and desist jokes, one fan seemed excited by the mod, saying, “Why does this look so well-made? This looks like a trailer Rockstar would officially release. From the music, to something catching an animal’s attention, to the wide view shots, this is perfect.”
Whether the Red Dead Redemption 2: Nuevo Paraiso mod gets taken down or not remains to be seen, but we hope, for fans’ sake, that it will be playable for a long time to come, giving its dedicated team the chance to complete the project and inspire fans wanting to embark on equally as ambitious creations.
