Following the misstep of Jurassic World: Dominion, Jurassic World Rebirth has officially been announced and aims to steer the franchise in the right direction. Jurassic World: Dominion very much serves as a conclusion to the sequel trilogy, bringing together arcs from across the new movies but also seeing the return of Jurassic Park‘s main characters. This helped give Dominion a sense of finality, but major franchises like Jurassic World can’t stay away for too long.
The Jurassic Park franchise has had its ups and downs, but the tantalizing chance to rake in hundreds of millions of dollars at the box office has always enticed Hollywood to return to the well. Jurassic World: Dominion received largely negative reactions from critics, and though it raked in over $1 billion (via Box Office Mojo), it was clear that change was needed to keep the dinosaurs-run-amok franchise viable. Therefore, Universal wasted little time in announcing a brand-new Jurassic World project that serves ostensibly as a soft reboot.

Jurassic World Rebirth Cast
Scarlett Johansson & Jonathan Bailey Lead The Cast
Though the prospect of another Jurassic World movie is exciting on its own, one of Rebirth‘s biggest selling factors is its all-star cast of new characters. First announced in March 2024, Scarlett Johansson is set to lead the soft reboot as Zora Bennett, a covert operations agent who is tasked with securing DNA samples from the remaining dinosaurs on Earth. Joining Johansson in the lead cast is Jonathan Bailey as paleontologist Dr. Henry Loomis, and Mahershala Ali as Bennett’s team member, Duncan Kincaid.

Jurassic World Rebirth Story
A Soft Reboot On The Franchise
Perhaps the new incarnation of
Jurassic World
can hearken back to the gritty and cynical style of Michael Chrichton’s original novel
The plot of Jurassic World Rebirth was shrouded in mystery for quite some time, but with Universal’s latest release of news, the movie has begun to take shape. Taking place several years after the events of Jurassic World Dominion, the movie will follow covert operations expert Zora Bennett (Johansson) as she leads an elite team of hunters to track down the remaining dinosaurs left on Earth and harvest their DNA for a pharmaceutical company. While on their mission, Zora and her team encounter a shipwrecked family (led by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo’s character), and together the group discovers a shocking secret.
When the project was first announced, Jurassic World Rebirth was promised as a return to the franchise’s roots, and it’s likely trying to differentiate itself from the critical failure of previous installments. Perhaps the new incarnation of Jurassic World can hearken back to the gritty and cynical style of Michael Chrichton’s original novel, and delve deeper into the themes of corporate greed that underscored the debut story.
