There are just over two weeks to go until the launch of Resident Evil Requiem and with the ninth main installment in the Resident Evil franchise expected to take the world by storm, a recent leak has left fans feeling torn.
It is hard to believe that 2026 celebrates the 30th anniversary of the Resident Evil franchise and what better way to celebrate than by the launch of its most ambitious entry yet?
Featuring the return of Leon Kennedy himself as well as the introduction to brand-new protagonist Grace Ashcroft, Resident Evil Requiem is just days away from launch, but fans have been left divided following leaks of a potential playtime.
How Long Is Resident Evil Requiem?
According to insider Dusk Golem, the rumours currently circulating regarding Resident Evil Requiem’s runtime are “not true” and are “skewing information to come to a conclusion that’s setting up the wrong expectation and not based off of any official information”.
The rumours in question estimate Resident Evil Requiem to take anything from 12–15 hours to complete its main story, with 20+ hours expected for those who are aiming for 100% completion, which seems to be the standard time for many single-player stories.
However, after speaking to a producer, Dusk Golem claims that Resident Evil 9 is “roughly” the length of Resident Evil 4 which, according to HowLongToBeat, takes 16 hours to complete its main story with 21+ hours for completion.
That being said, one RE director also admits that estimating a game’s completion time is difficult and that fans should expect a “”Resident Evil” amount of content.”
Recent Reports May Not Be Entirely Accurate
As such, recent rumours may not be entirely accurate, as even the creators of Resident Evil Requiem admit that it is just too difficult to accurately guess a game’s runtime.
For Dusk Golem themselves, they have heard rumours that it could be longer than Resident Evil Village but shorter than Resident Evil 4 but assure fans that a more accurate number will be available as soon as the game launches on 27 February.
After all, at the time of writing, outlets have only had access to hands-on previews rather than the whole game, and so none of us truly know how long we will get to spend in the remains of Raccoon City.
It is also worth taking into account that many of us experience games differently; if you are anything like me, then you will want to comb every inch of the map whilst others just want to charge head first into fights and complete the game a lot faster. Put simply, it is worth taking any runtime rumours with a pinch of salt until the official launch of Resident Evil Requiem later this month.
