When the time came for the Crunchyroll panel during this weekend’s Anime Expo, fans were excited about whatever news the streaming platform was willing to share. There were some titles, however, that audiences never saw coming, and Re:Zero — Starting Life in Another World was one of them. During the panel, Crunchyroll unveiled a trailer for the anime series’ highly anticipated Season 4, but it came with a bit of a downer: episodes will only start rolling out in 2026, and no release window has been announced.
The 2026 release window makes one thing official: Season 4 of the show will debut when the anime franchise celebrates its 10th anniversary. Season 1 debuted in early 2016, and it had an event-like premiere with a 50-minute first episode followed by a 24-episode season. The story is an isekai story that has a bit of a twist: protagonist Subaru Natsuki (voiced by Yūsuke Kobayashi in the original Japanese and by Sean Chiplock in the English dub) is an extreme antisocial who is forced out of his isolation to learn to fend for himself in a different and magical world.
The trailer for Re:Zero — Starting Life in Another World Season 4 doesn’t delve too much into details of the story, but it does reveal some of the thrilling events that we will witness in the upcoming episodes. The most impressive reveal is that the new season will go full Dune: Part Two and have Subaru and his friends fleeing from a giant sandworm in the middle of the desert. It’s not the only challenge they will face in the harsh environment — they will also be chased by ruthless monsters, fierce enemies, and powerful sandstorms. 2026 can’t come soon enough.
What Else Did Crunchyroll Reveal at Anime Expo?
Aside from the Re:Zero — Starting Life in Another World Season 4 trailer, there were other great surprises at the Crunchyroll panel. The streaming platform announced the shocking return of Black Clover in a new anime series, as well as a new season of surprise hit anime series Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End — the series returns in January. The Apothecary Diaries also confirmed a Season 3 shortly after Season 2 ended its run, and Chainsaw Man — The Movie: Reze Arc unveiled a new trailer.
Outside the Crunchyroll realm, Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War also confirmed a 2026 return at Anime Expo, and highly praised Cyberpunk: Edgerunners announced a sequel after a three-year hiatus. The Solo Leveling animation studio unveiled a stunning new anime movie, and The Ghost in the Shell also got a new trailer — the reboot is coming in 2026.
