Robert Pattinson has an exciting slate of movies coming down the pike, but among them is The Odyssey. The Christopher Nolan movie will adapt the classic Greek epic text by Homer, covering the tales of ship captain Odysseus on his perilous journey home to Ithaca after the Trojan War.
Filling the lead role is Matt Damon, who will play the main hero, Odysseus. Holland is also all but confirmed to play Odysseus’ son, Telemachus, as it is widely reported that this is the part he will play.
Though their specific roles have yet to be announced, Nolan has rounded out his cast with an impressive slate of actors. This includes Jon Bernthal, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, Zendaya, Cosmo Jarvis, Mia Goth, Eliot Page, Lupita Nyong’o, John Leguizamo, and Samantha Morton.
With a cast that stacked and a lot of parts available in The Odyssey, it is hard to know who Pattinson will play. He has portrayed a major character in a Nolan film, Tenet, so the director may want to rely on him again. That said, there is one character that would be a great fit for Pattinson.
Robert Pattinson Is Rumored To Play Hermes In Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey
The Legendary Greek God Plays A Key Role In Homer’s Epic
While no one from the production has confirmed who Pattinson will play in The Odyssey, there have already been rumors that he will play Hermes. This rumor originated from Chi Magazine (via Filmofilia), which began circulating the whisper that this might be what Pattinson plays.

7 Lessons The Odyssey Should Learn From Christopher Nolan’s Previous Movies
Christopher Nolan’s upcoming adaptation of the Odyssey needs to take some pretty big lessons from the filmmaker’s other cinematic successes.
Per Greek mythology, Hermes was a god on Olympus. He is also portrayed as a messenger in the original text of The Odyssey. He is supposed to help guide Odysseus back to Ithaca, and uses his divine powers to save him during some key moments.
Hermes plays a key role in the epic text, and he will almost certainly be brought to the big screen for this movie version. It is vital to note that, while it is still possible that this is the role Pattinson will play, these are just rumors, and they are far from confirmed.
Pattinson Could Play Antinous In The Odyssey Instead
And There Might Be Evidence Supporting This Theory
Another potentially fitting role for Pattinson would be Antinous. He is one of the suitors who is looking to marry Odysseus’ wife, Penelope, in his extended absence. Antinous is considered arrogant and self-centered, and is thus portrayed unfavorably.
Some The Odyssey casting guesses have positioned Pattinson as Antinous. There is some production-related evidence to this claim as well. It was reported that Pattinson was in Italy around the same time as Holland. Because Telemachus and Antinous share numerous scenes in The Odyssey, this would point further towards Pattinson as Antinous.

Christopher Nolan has created an outstanding body of work across his movies, while also coaxing out equally brilliant performances from his actors.
Hermes, on the other hand, is more closely connected with Odysseus. There has been less reporting on Pattinson’s encounter with Damon during key production windows, which seems to point away from the messenger deity and more towards the haughty suitor.
Antinous Would Be A More Exciting Role For Robert Pattinson
Antinous Would Give Him A Meatier Role
Antinous would be great for Pattinson to show another side of his acting chops. While the actor has played some complex and undesirable characters before, including some of his clones in the recent Mickey 17, he rarely plays a main villain.
He is an actor known as Batman in The Batman and a good asset in Nolan’s own film, Tenet. For this reason, audiences are used to rooting for, not against, Pattinson’s characters. Antinous would be a change of pace since he is much more malicious and self-serving.
Antinous would be a much more interesting character for Pattinson to play than Hermes. Antinous’ role is more significant, and Hermes is also fairly one-dimensional. As casting information for The Odyssey gets further fleshed out, there is still hope for the announcement that Pattinson will play Antinous.
