Star Wars’ newest TV show finally confirmed that Ahsoka Tano really has moved on from Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which is particularly exciting news for the future of this character. Ahsoka was introduced in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie, but her character was fully fleshed out in and defined by the Clone Wars TV show.
In fact, even with myriad appearances in animated and live-action Star Wars shows in the years since, and an actress switch from Ashley Eckstein to Rosario Dawson (animated Ahsoka versus live-action Ahsoka), it’s really The Clone Wars that Ahsoka feels tethered to. That seems to have finally changed, however, with one subtle moment in the most recent Star Wars show.
Star Wars Admits That Ahsoka Has Found A Place To Belong
Although the show is not canon, LEGO Star Wars: Rebuild the Galaxy – Pieces of the Past was a wonderful addition to Star Wars movies and TV shows, with a range of shocking (and delightful) moments, from a Skywalker family reunion to the first on-screen use of “Baby Yoda.”
Among those moments was also one that indicated a major shift with Ahsoka as a character. Specifically, at the end of Pieces of the Past, Ahsoka says she is finally where she belongs, as she is surrounded by characters from the Ahsoka show, including Hera Syndulla and Sabine Wren.
Yes, that’s the show Ahsoka is currently on, but the message is deeper than that: this scene cements that Ahsoka ‘belongs’ with these characters, no longer with the Clone Wars-era or even Skywalker Saga characters.
Even Star Wars Canon Has Secretly Admitted This
The notion that Ahsoka has moved on from the Skywalkers and The Clone Wars is slightly complicated by certain aspects of the Ahsoka show, including the Clone Wars-era flashback in the World Between Worlds as well as Anakin Skywalker’s return in that episode and his appearance as a Force Ghost in the Ahsoka finale.
Anakin’s role in Ahsoka season 2 is unknown, although we do know that Hayden Christensen is returning in Ahsoka season 2. Even so, the very nature of Ahsoka signals that she is no longer being defined by The Clone Wars. One of the biggest complaints about Ahsoka was that it felt like Star Wars: Rebels season 5, after all.
This focus on primarily Rebels characters in a show in which Ahsoka is the titular lead is a clear indicator that her character has become so much more than the movie/show in which she debuted. Yes, Anakin will always be a key part of her story as her former Jedi Master, but Pieces of the Past was right.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars and the Skywalker Saga remain integral to Ahsoka Tano’s character, but she’s now where she truly belongs: with the Ahsoka cast.
