Skyler Gisondo is trading the Daily Planet for a much more dysfunctional family.
Fresh off his breakout turn as Jimmy Olsen in James Gunn’s Superman, the rising comic actor is now in talks to join Ben Stiller and Ariana Grande in the upcoming Meet the Parents sequel, slated for release on November 25, 2026. The sequel is being directed by franchise veteran John Hamburg, who also wrote the script. This time around, the story centers on the now-adult son of Stiller and Teri Polo’s characters, who becomes engaged to a sharp, high-maintenance woman played by Grande — a partner who immediately raises red flags for the family. Gisondo is in talks to play the unlucky-in-love son, whose engagement sets off a new round of parental interference and comic misfires.
Robert De Niro and Blythe Danner are confirmed to reprise their roles as Jack and Dina Byrnes, the hyper-paranoid in-laws who’ve made Stiller’s life a comedic nightmare across three films: Meet the Parents (2000), Meet the Fockers (2004), and Little Fockers (2010). The upcoming film is backed by a producing team that blends veterans and newcomers. De Niro and Jane Rosenthal are producing via their Tribeca Productions banner, while original Meet the Parents director Jay Roach returns as a producer through Delirious Media. Stiller is also on board as a producer through Red Hour Films, alongside John Lesher, with Hamburg producing under his Particular Pictures label. Universal’s Matt Reilly and Jacqueline Garell are overseeing the project for the studio.
Who Is Skyler Gisondo?
For Gisondo, the role marks a full-circle moment: he first worked with Stiller as a teen actor in Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb more than a decade ago. Since then, he’s steadily built a reputation as a versatile and quick-witted performer, with roles in Booksmart, Licorice Pizza, The Righteous Gemstones, and Santa Clarita Diet. He’s also expected to headline an upcoming Jimmy Olsen series at HBO Max. With Superman soaring at the box office and Gisondo’s Olsen already emerging as a fan-favorite, this new Meet the Parents film comes at just the right time.
Stay tuned to Collider for more updates and, for the time being, you can catch Skyler Gisondo charming audiences as Jimmy Olsen in Superman, playing in theaters now.
