Sydney Sweeney’s 63% Rotten Tomatoes Neo-Western Dusts Off Digital Release Date

One of Sydney Sweeney’s most recent movies is going to be available to watch at home much sooner than we thought. Lionsgate has confirmed that Americana will officially go up for rent or purchase on digital platforms like Prime Video and Fandango at Home on September 16. Sweeney stars alongside Paul Walter Hauser (The Fantastic Four: First Steps) and Eric Dane (Countdown) in the neo-Western, which accounts the lives of local outsiders and outcasts who violently intertwine when a Lakota Ghost shirt lands on the black market in a small South Dakota town. The film was written and directed by Tony Tost.

Americana earned a respectable 63% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, which avoids the Rotten label Sweeney has earned before with other misses like Madame Web. However, it still falls short of the Certified Fresh moniker that has evaded her since 2023’s Reality. The film was moderately well-liked by audiences, who rated it a 77% on the Popcornmeter, which makes it the third-highest-rated movie of her career behind Anyone But You and Big Time Adolescence. Americana is an indie film, so it wasn’t expected to be a smash hit at the box office, but the film has earned less than $1 million at the global box office.

Sweeney first made a name for herself starring as Eden Spencer in The Handmaid’s Tale, but she further exploded in popularity thanks to her roles in HBO originals, Euphoria, and The White Lotus. Sweeney is even expected to return to her role as Cassie Howard in the third season of Euphoria, which is eyeing a 2026 release date. She recently debuted a new movie on Apple TV+, Echo Valley, that sees her star alongside Julianne Moore. The film is still sitting comfortably in the top 10 despite newer arrivals pushing it further down the list.

When Does Sydney Sweeney’s Next Movie Come Out?

Sydney Sweeney is teaming up with the star of Taylor Sheridan’s hit Yellowstone prequel for her next project, which is coming to theaters later this year. Sweeney will star opposite Brandon Sklenar (1923) and Amanda Seyfried (Mamma Mia!) in The Housemaid, which will premiere exclusively in theaters on December 19. The film follows a struggling woman who begins her life anew as a housemaid for an affluent, elite couple. Paul Feig, who recently directed Another Simple Favor, is directing The Housemaid with a script from Rebecca Sonnenshine. The film is based on Freida McFadden’s novel of the same name.

Stay tuned to Collider for more updates and coverage of Sweeney’s future projects.
