DC fans are just a week away from seeing James Gunn’s Superman hit theaters. The fresh start for the DCU is going to be filled with iconic superheroes and villains. One of those heroes, of course, will be Batman in the upcoming film The Brave and the Bold. Companies like McFarlane Toys don’t need the excuse to make more figures based on The Dark Knight, but ahead of the character’s DCU debut, they’ve just unveiled their latest set centered around the fabled Bat-Family.
A part of McFarlane’s Digital section of the seven-inch scale DC Direct line, this latest wave features four new figures. Three of which are included in Batman’s extended family of crime fighters. There’s Batman based on the classic 90s No Man’s Land comic storyline, Stephanie Brown’s Batgirl, and Dick Grayson’s Nightwing from Teen Titans. The latter is featured in his original disco-inspired costume. The final figure in this digital wave is Monarch from DC’s Countdown. These figures will go up for pre-order on Tuesday, July 8th.
The Bat-Family in the DCU
While there’s no date or release window for The Brave and the Bold yet, the film will be based on The Son of Batman storyline. This saw a seasoned Caped Crusader train his young son Damien Wayne, who he had with Talia al Ghul, to become the next Robin. Casting hasn’t begun for the film either, but Dick Grayson and Jason Todd’s version of the sidekick will also be seen in the upcoming and wholly ambitious animated film Dynamic Duo.
If that wasn’t enough, Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II will be fighting its way to theaters on October 1, 2027. This crime noir universe will remain separate from the DCU, with Robert Pattinson and Colin Farrell expected to return as Batman and The Penguin, respectively. The film also received a major update late last month, as the script for Part II was finally submitted after numerous delays.
The DCU’s New Beginning
It may be some time before we see characters like Stephanie Brown in the DCU, but the franchise’s new path begins when Superman flies into theaters on July 11th. Films like Supergirl, Clayface, and The Brave and the Bold will follow in the years to come. Before the DCU kicks it into high gear on the big screen, you can stream DC favorites like The Batman, The Dark Knight, and The Suicide Squad on HBO Max. You can also view McFarlane Toys’ previously released DC Multiverse figures on their website. This includes the recent figures they made for Gunn’s Superman.
