Things are not only moving along but looking very promising for Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II. According to Variety, Warner Bros. reports that not only has Reeves officially turned in the script for the sequel to the 2022 film starring Robert Pattinson as the Caped Crusader, but the studio is “thrilled” with the script they’ve received. The news comes just a day as Reeves’ other project in that universe, The Penguin, starring Colin Farrell, earned a whopping 24 Primetime Emmy nominations.
Reeves previously revealed that the script was finished back in June, but this is now confirmation that the studio has officially received the finished script. The script for the sequel had been in the work for some time, with head of DC Studios, James Gunn, reiterating patience for Reeves to complete the script on his own time. Gunn previously told Rolling Stone as fan impatience grew, “The Batman Part II is not canceled. That’s the other thing I hear all the time — that Batman Part II is canceled. It’s not canceled. We don’t have a script. Matt’s slow. Let him take his time. Let him do what he’s doing.” Though Gunn has stated The Batman does not exist within his DCU, which was officially ushered in with the release of Superman less than a week ago, Gunn’s patience and support has been public since the beginning.
What to Expect for ‘The Batman Part II’
Though not much is known plot-wise for the upcoming sequel to the 2022 film, with Gunn’s support and the success of the first movie, as well as the studio’s positive feedback, things are all pointing towards another successful project for Reeves. The first film made roughly $770 million worldwide and had a reported $185 million budget. The film still sports an 85% Certified Fresh critic’s score on Rotten Tomatoes alongside an 87% Audience Score. Pattinson returns as Batman with early reports saying that it will take place after the events of The Penguin, with the HBO Max series serving to bridge the gap between the two films. As for a Season 2 of the series, Reeves has previously said The Batman Part II is his priority. “I would love to do more [spinoff series]” He says:
“We’re talking about doing the second season of The Penguin, but my big priority is to get The Batman 2 shooting and going.”
