There’s an undeniable thrill that comes when Netflix acquires a show or movie you’ve been dying to see. Suddenly, the stories you’ve imagined, the characters you’ve longed to see, and the worlds you’ve been desperate to escape into are all there, ready for you at the click of a button. And for a time, it feels permanent. Netflix makes it feel like it’s yours forever, that this story, this movie, this show will always be available whenever you need it.
And then, inevitably, comes the gut punch. Netflix removes it. The title you became obsessed with suddenly vanishes, and that sense of permanence, the illusion Netflix had so expertly built, evaporates in an instant. At the top of next year, Netflix subscribers will be forced to say goodbye to The Lincoln Lawyer, and honestly, it feels devastating.
The Lincoln Lawyer is set to leave Netflix in January 2026

Now, don’t get this title mixed up with the Netflix original series of the same name starring Manuel Garcia-Rulfo. The Lincoln Lawyer television series is safe and will remain on Netflix. Instead, it’s The Lincoln Lawyer movie that will be departing the streaming platform. Remember the one starring Matthew McConaughey as the charismatic criminal defense attorney Mickey Haller? Unfortunately, Netflix will be parting ways with the legal drama this January.
The streaming giant even put up a removal notice on the movie’s title page on the platform to make things really official. The exact departure date is Thursday, Jan. 1, 2026. This means the last day to watch The Lincoln Lawyer on Netflix is Dec. 31, 2025. Given that Dec. 31 is New Year’s Eve, you’ll probably want to plan ahead and squeeze in a final viewing of The Lincoln Lawyer before the clock strikes midnight. If not, you’ll have to wait or find another way to watch this critically acclaimed film.
Sadly, it doesn’t look like the movie will be available to stream anywhere else after it departs Netflix. It looks like the only option you’ll have to watch this legal drama is by renting or purchasing it via digital platforms. However, this might change once the different streaming services start unveiling their lists of what’s coming to their platforms in January 2026. Perhaps The Lincoln Lawyer will find a new streaming home then. But for now, your best bet is to enjoy it on Netflix before it’s gone.
Brad Furman directed The Lincoln Lawyer from a screenplay written by John Romano. It’s based on Michael Connelly’s bestselling 2005 novel of the same name, which introduced readers to the slick, street-smart defense attorney Mickey Haller. In the film, Mickey takes on a seemingly straightforward case defending a wealthy client accused of assault, only to uncover a tangled web of corruption, deception, and danger that threatens to upend his career and put his life at risk.
Starring alongside McConaughey in the film are Marisa Tomei, Ryan Phillippe, Josh Lucas, John Leguizamo, Michael Peña, Frances Fisher, Bob Gunton, Bryan Cranston, William H. Macy, and others.
Although it’s unfortunate that The Lincoln Lawyer will be departing Netflix soon, the good news is that we have a brand-new season of the television series to look forward to in 2026. An official release date for The Lincoln Lawyer season 4 has not been announced yet, but we’re hoping for an early 2026 release. We’ll get back to you with these juicy deets once they’re revealed, so stay tuned to Netflix Life!
