Arondir The Lord of the Rings The Rings Of Power Season 1 Episode 8

The Rings of Power actor Ismael Cruz Córdova teases Arondir’s inner conflict as he grows closer to humanity in season 2 of the Prime Video show.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power star Ismael Cruz Córdova says that Arondir will be facing a greater inner conflict during season 2 of the series. An Elf archer stationed in the Southlands, Arondir tried to defend the region from invading Orcish armies in season 1 of the show, influenced by his love for Bronwyn and her son, Theo. Season 1, episode 7 of The Rings of Power establishes that Arondir will be going with the displaced people of the Southlands to Pelargir, an old colony of Númenor whose land they can use to start over.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Speaking with TVLine, Córdova explained the inner conflict Arondir will be facing in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 now that he has joined the humans of the Southlands. He says that Arondir’s status as an Elf will be of major importance come season 2, as he could be presented with a situation that necessitates him to choose between Bronwyn and his Elvish heritage. Check out what Córdova had to say below:

We’re always talking about elves and human relationships and humans as babies in the eyes of elves, but I think it’s reversed with him entering a more human dynamic. He is a baby in terms of knowing how to be domestic and how to be a dad or a boyfriend.

That’s the meat of the conflict of this guy. At the end of the day, he’s an eternal being. He’s going to outlive humans in one way or another. He’s chosen to go with the humans right now, but if he gets called upon, will he choose his family or his people?

What’s Next For Arondir In The Rings Of Power?

According to Córdova’s comments, Arondir’s assimilation with the humans of the Southlands will be a major contributor to his character arc in The Rings of Power season 2. Season 1 indicated that Arondir had become an accepted member of the Southlands, as half the humans in Bronwyn’s village put their lives in his hands and helped him fight back against the invading Orcs. Now that he is set on accompanying them to Pelargir, it appears he will continue to bond with people beyond Bronwyn who were displaced in battle. This includes her son Theo, who he shared a few scenes with throughout season 1.

The conflict between Arondir’s love for humanity and his status as an Elf may be sparked because of the loss of the Southlands. In season 1, episode 6, Arondir inadvertently causes the deaths of many citizens of the Southlands as the dark Elf Adar searches for Sauron’s sword in order to activate Mount Doom. Arondir tries to maintain a firm disposition as Adar begins to execute citizens one by one, causing Theo to reveal the location of the sword, something Arondir tries to stop him from doing. While Arondir believed he was doing what was right at the time, the Southlands’ survivors may blame his willingness to fight back as the reason why Adar executed so many, causing a further rift between the humans and Elves of Middle-earth.

It’s also possible that Arondir’s new allies in both Númenor and Eregion will have an impact on his storyline moving forward. Now that the first three Rings of Power have been forged by Celebrimbor, the rest are destined to follow, shaking Middle-earth to its core and resulting in the Last Alliance of Elves and Men against Sauron’s armies. As the turmoil of Middle-earth grows, Arondir may be forced to choose between assisting Elves in the fight against Sauron, or helping the displaced Southlanders rebuild their lives on Pelargir. It may be unclear for now how Arondir may be forced to choose between Elves and humans in The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2, but however it happens will have a deep impact on his character for the rest of the series.
