Thunderbolts* has received great reviews to rival nearly any Multiverse Saga movie, but the film’s box office performance is tapering off slightly quicker than many expected. After earning $16.6 million domestically during its third weekend in theaters, a 49% drop from the weekend before, Thunderbolts* now sits at a $155.5 million domestic total. The film has also added $170.7 million internationally for a global cumulative haul of $326.2 million. This $155 million at the domestic box office is enough to push Thunderbolts* past Fast X, the action sequel starring Alan Ritchson that collected $146 million domestically. However, despite a “rotten” 57% score from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, the film also added a whopping $568 million internationally for a worldwide total of $714 million — more than double Thunderbolts* at the time of writing.
While critics and audiences agree that Thunderbolts* is a stellar MCU film in its own right, it’s certainly benefiting from the upcoming release of The Fantastic Four: First Steps and especially Avengers: Doomsday. When Marvel Studios went live on YouTube not long ago to officially announce the cast for the fifth Avengers film, most of the Thunderbolts* team members made the cut, which made it easy for fans to invest in them, knowing we’re going to see them again soon. Those who have seen the film also have an idea of what role the Thunderbolts* will play in the fight against Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) and how they could clash with some other members of The Avengers. The Thunderbolts* post-credit scene also teased the group’s interaction with other heroes in future films.
When Will ‘Thunderbolts*’ Arrive on Streaming?
Marvel Studios has yet to announce when Thunderbolts* will begin streaming, and the team-up film is still only available to watch in theaters. Disney is known for giving its movies longer theatrical runs, especially Marvel movies that have a history of performing well at the box office. It will likely be a few more weeks before Thunderbolts* is available to rent or purchase on VOD platforms like Prime Video or Fandango at Home, and even longer before it begins streaming on Disney+. However, Captain America: Brave New World hits Disney+ next Wednesday on May 28, after releasing in theaters on February 14.
Thunderbolts* is still playing exclusively in theaters. Stay tuned to Collider for future box office updates on the film, and find tickets below for a showtime near you.
