Tim Burton’s 'X-Men' Replacement Is Streaming on Disney+ This January

Before the X-Men enter the MCU, another film featuring a group of children with a peculiar set of skills, living in a home where they can use their abilities away from the outside world, will be entering Disney+. Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children was released in 2016 and will be streaming next year. The film is based on the 2011 novel of the same name and is directed by Tim Burton.

Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children enters Disney+ on January 2, 2026, a day after the Indiana Jones streaming release. For those who have yet to see the film, it stars Asa Butterfield (Sex Education) as Jake Portman, who visits Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children after hearing his grandfather’s stories. He learns that this home is protected by a time loop that rewinds the last 24 hours of September 3, 1943, to keep the children safe and their powers a secret from the outside world. Unfortunately, these children are being hunted by Hollows, and it’s up to Jake to protect them.

Since its release, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children received a fair critics’ score of 65% and an average audience score of 60% on Rotten Tomatoes, and has generated over $296 million worldwide. Collider reviewed the film in 2016, giving it a C rating, noting that Jake and Burton share similarities in the movie, and calling it Burton’s “meta-commentary on the director and his worldview.” Additionally, it has received numerous nominations, including Best Fantasy Film at the Saturn Awards; and Choice Fantasy Movie, Choice Fantasy Movie Actor, and Choice Fantasy Movie Actress at the Teen Choice Awards; and Favorite Dramatic Movie at the People’s Choice Awards.
