Today is officially Friday and it’s time to end the work week right by getting that Perfect! streak in Connections. Luckily, with a few tips, it’s not hard to get that perfect score today. There are a few odd words that could go in another category, but this has a little less crossover than other recent puzzles and that should make it faster to spot the differences.
Connections is not the only word-based puzzle and it is not even close to the only NYT word-based puzzle. After all, the ever-popular Wordle ran so Connections could run with it. And that is not even looking back at the daily Crossword, present in the old-fashioned newspaper for longer than many of us have been alive. Whatever level your word game is, you can find a game for you.

Dreaming up is always something to aspire to, and today these words are all similar enough without a lot of extra meanings that made it easier for us to put them together. IMAGINE and ENVISION were the first two words to catch our eyes, but before long CONCEIVE and PICTURE joined the team.

This was the last category we guessed today, mostly due to the inclusion of FILM. PICTURE from the last category and FLICK from a future one both felt like they could be movie-related, but when a fourth word did not appear it was fairly clear the other two belonged elsewhere.
However, once we realized that all these words had to do with a top layer of something, it was easier to guess. And at least this category was the ogre-like green one to remind us that they too have layers.

The second category we deciphered, it was the BRUSH and SWEEP that gave it away. While we were not necessarily aware of the “Crumbs” specific part, it was nice to have these very similar verbs to help us figure this one out. WIPE and FLICK also seemed to go together, and sure enough when we submitted the guess it was a clean sweep.

This one was the third category we got, mainly because all of these words had to do with backend computer jargon. While we may not have known the exact category the Connections editor was going for, knowing that they all existed in a digital space, and none of the others did, got us the win even so.
