'Tony & Ziva' Bring the Laughs in New Gag Reel From Cancelled 'NCIS' Spin-Off [Exclusive]

Happy Monday, NCIS: Tony & Ziva fans! Whether you’re enjoying warm weather or hunkered down in a January snowstorm, Collider is thrilled to bring you an exclusive look at one of the bonus features of NCIS: Tony & Ziva‘s digital release. For many who grew up before streaming, gag reels/blooper reels were a beloved special feature on the home releases of all our favorite TV shows. NCIS: Tony & Ziva brings that energy back with roughly a minute and a half of laughs featuring leads Cote De Pablo, Michael Weatherly, and other cast members struggling to keep it together during takes of the NCIS spin-off. Other special features of the digital release, available through Apple TV Home and Fandango at Home, include:

  • Two Deleted Scenes
  • Three Featurettes:

    • “A Global Affair” focuses on the development and production of the NCIS: Tony & Ziva storyline, featuring interviews with Michael Weatherly, Cote de Pablo, and showrunner John McNamara.
    • “Shooting Abroad” looks at the production work done on location in Budapest, featuring cast and crew interviews.
    • “A Dress Worth Waiting For” centers on the design and on-set use of the wedding dress worn by Cote de Pablo.

Will There Be an ‘NCIS: Tony & Ziva’ Season 2?

While the series wasn’t marketed as a limited series, it could definitely be watched as such. The series was cancelled after one season. Even in that singular season, the series gave fans closure on a relationship more than 20 years old, showing Tony and Ziva as co-parents to their daughter, and rekindling their on-again-off-again romance once and for all. Fans also got to see a snapshot of some of their lives between their last NCIS appearances and the spin-off. The glimpses provided closure, and fans showed up each week to see it.

The series secured spots in Paramount+’s Top 10 each week of its run. And the trailer alone garnered several million views in just a few short days on YouTube. When the series was cancelled, the cast showed nothing but gratitude for the opportunity to bring these characters to life once again. That feeling is palpable through the joy in the gag reel, with De Pablo and Weatherly often ribbing each other when they inevitably flub a line or miss a cue in a scene. De Pablo and Weatherly shared a statement after the news, saying in part:

“We feel incredibly lucky to have had the chance to play these characters once again and to tell the next chapter of Tony and Ziva’s story. Our deepest thanks go to our extraordinary cast, crew, writers, directors, and producers, and to our partners at CBS Studios and Paramount+ who helped make this dream a reality.”
