With the high number of Netflix shows that have been renewed in the past year, it can be difficult to keep track of when our favorite shows will start filming, when they wrap filming, and when they will ultimately hit our watch lists. Thankfully, we don’t have to keep wondering about any of those things when it comes to one of Netflix’s most underrated breakout comedy series.
In January 2025, Netflix launched the Canadian comedy series North of North, which was ultimately renewed for a second season in April 2025. Since the renewal, there haven’t been a significant amount of updates, but just over one year after the show’s premiere, Netflix revealed the exciting news fans have been waiting for. Cameras have officially started rolling on season 2!
North of North season 2 begins filming ahead of 2026 release
On Jan. 20, 2026, Netflix and CBC announced that North of North season 2 has officially stared filming in Toronto. Production begins in Toronto and then takes the cast and crew up to Iqaluit, Nunavut to film the exterior scenes that give the series its unique setting. According to Netflix, filming will continue through April 2026 for a planned release later on this year.

Netflix and CBC marked the occasion of North of North season 2 beginning production with a selfie of the cast behind the scenes on set. They are all smiles and peace signs as Jay Ryan takes the photo of the group under the bright lights of the soundstage. As filming progresses, the cast and crew, as well as Netflix and CBC, will surely continue to share shots from behind the scenes.
While not much has been given away about what to expect from North of North season 2, the second season will continue to focus on young Inuk single mother Siaja (Anna Lambe) as she pushes forward on making a new life for herself in Ice Cover after leaving her marriage. She’s joined by her family members and the quirky citizens of her small Arctic town in Canada.
In addition to Lambe leading the cast, Netflix has also confirmed that North of North season 2 will also find Maika Harper, Braeden Clarke, Jay Ryan, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Zorga Qaunaq, Bailey Poching, Nutaaq Doreen Simmonds, and Keira Cooper reprising their roles from season 1. We’re likely to see more familiar faces from the recurring cast as well as some new guest stars popping up.
Even though we now know that filming will wrap up in April 2026, Netflix and CBC didn’t offer a release window for North of North season 2 beyond saying it will arrive before the end of the year. If we had to guess, late summer 2026 would be the earliest release date we could imagine, with a release on the early side of fall making sense, too. We’ll be sure to keep fans updated with further developments!
