Veronica Remake Tease Has Gamers Losing It

First released way back in 2000, Resident Evil – Code: Veronica tells the story of brother and sister duo Chris and Claire Redfield as they attempt to survive a viral outbreak in a remote prison in the Southern Ocean as well as a research facility in Antarctica. Set three months after the events of Resident Evil 2 and the destruction of Raccoon City, Resident Evil – Code: Veronica did not initially sell as well as previous Resident Evil entries, but it soon received critical acclaim and is now regarded as one of the best in the long-running Capcom franchise.

However, despite a revised version in 2001 titled Code: Veronica X and a high-definition remastered version in 2011, Code: Veronica X, Resident Evil – Code: Veronica is yet to receive an official remake over two decades on, and that is not through lack of trying by its dedicated fanbase.

A Resident Evil Code: Veronica Remake Would Go Hard

With older titles in the Resident Evil series getting remakes over recent years, such as Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 4, it would be a shame not to see Resident Evil – Code: Veronica get the same treatment, especially with it being one of the oldest entries. Not only that, but with both Chris and Claire Redfield being such iconic characters, there is no doubt that an official remake would see record-breaking sales.

Over on r/PS5, fans came together to discuss the potential of a Resident Evil – Code: Veronica remake, with rumors kicking off in earnest recently following comments made by none other than actor Nick Apostolides, who plays the role of Leon Kennedy in the franchise. In a conversation with PC Gamer, Apostolides campaigned for remakes of Resident Evil 5, Resident Evil 6, and of course, Resident Evil – Code: Veronica.

“I would like to see a Code Veronica get remade because that, to me, was a very challenging game. But the story of it was just so wild and weird, and I think if they did it in today’s RE Engine with today’s storytelling and grounded acting, I think that would be one hell of a game.”

It’s Almost Certainly Our Next RE-make

Although an official remake of Resident Evil – Code: Veronica has not yet been confirmed by Capcom, there is no denying that it should be next on the docket for the studio. With the Resident Evil remakes performing well over the past few years, it is no doubt that the return of the 2000 hit will achieve the same, and it seems as though fans agree.

“Honestly fine with a return to RE1 or getting Code Veronica. As long as we get both, which I’m sure Capcom will eventually do,” one Reddit user shared. Another reminded us of Capcom’s work ethic, saying, “Capcom seems to alternate between a new entry and a remake with Resident Evil releases, so maybe CV will be the next one?” For now, we will have to wait and see, but there is no denying that Resident Evil – Code: Veronica deserves its time back in the spotlight two decades on from release, especially after Resident Evil Requiem recently teased its potential return…
