Star Trek: Voyager makes its triumphant return, giving Captain Janeway her greatest mission yet. Voyager ended its seven-season run in 2001, leaving plot lines unresolved and fates unknown. Now, to celebrate the show’s 30th anniversary, a new miniseries, titled Star Trek: Voyager: Homecoming, will wrap those mysteries up, while giving Janeway and company one last mission.
Star Trek: Voyager: Homecoming #1 is written by Susan Bridges and Tilly Bridges and drawn by Angel Hernandez. Just hours after returning to Earth, Voyager is hijacked by Species 8472, who want to use the futuristic technology given to the ship by the future Janeway to invade and destroy the Federation. Janeway and her crew must now stop 8472 and return home.

Star Trek: Voyager’s Finale Left Many Unanswered Questions
Star Trek: Voyager was the fifth entry in the franchise, and broke new ground in several ways. It was the first Star Trek show to feature a woman captain, and was set in the Delta Quadrant. Voyager also experimented with moral shades of gray, as the crew struggled to maintain Federation ideals while on the frontier.
Like its predecessors, Star Trek: The Next Generation and Deep Space Nine, Voyager ran for seven seasons. Voyager returned home in the show’s finale, but left many questions lingering, some of which have received no follow-up on screen. Homecoming will (hopefully) bring resolution to many of these plot lines, showing what happened to the crew after the camera faded to black.
There have been other publishing initiatives that have followed Janeway and Voyager’s crew after their return. Simon and Schuster, who publish officially-licensed Star Trek novels, launched a line of books in the mid-2000s showing what happened after Voyager made it back to Earth. These books are no longer in continuity, having been contradicted by later Star Trek shows.

Yet far from being fan service, Homecoming also celebrates Janeway and her resourceful crew. The mission they face, to stop a full-scale invasion of the Federation while trying to make it back to Earth, will take Janeway, Chakotay and Seven to the limit. Voyager is now fighting a two-front war, but no one is better equipped to win than Janeway.
Homecoming’s first issue demonstrates why Voyager’s crew was one of the finest in Starfleet. Janeway and company immediately leap into action when the ship is hijacked. The crew worked tirelessly to identify the culprits, and their existing knowledge of Species 8472 helped greatly. Any other ship might have been destroyed and its crew killed.

Voyager faced threats unlike any seen before in the Star Trek universe, and the biggest and baddest of them all have returned, and this time there may be no stopping them. Yet Voyager’s time in the Delta Quadrant proved that Captain Janeway and her crew could survive anything. Species 8472 does not stand a chance.
