Wednesday Season 2 Introduces OG Addams Family Member Cleopatra

Warning: SPOILERS for Wednesday season 2 part 2 are ahead!

Sixty-one years after the character’s original introduction, Wednesday season 2 introduced an OG Addams Family member. Given that the Netflix show is called Wednesday, there is no issue with the fact that the central story focuses on Wednesday Addams. However, they’ve also taken steps to make the show feel like it’s part of the bigger Addams Family franchise.

Pugsley, Morticia, and Gomez all take a bigger role in Wednesday season 2. Additionally, they introduce Grandmama Hester Frump and discuss Morticia’s sister, Ophelia. After teasing her the whole season, we get a quick glimpse of Ophelia Frump trapped in the basement of Grandmama’s home.

While some of the Addams Family characters detracted from the story, the addition of Hester and Ophelia benefited the narrative. Additionally, Wednesday added another original Addams Family character that helps shape the setting and the spooky feeling of the Netflix show.

Wednesday Season 2 Subtly Introduced The Addamses’ Pet Cleopatra

In addition to featuring Hester Frump and Ophelia, Wednesday season 2 subtly introduces a third member of the Addams Family who has been a part of the family for decades: Cleopatra, Morticia’s African Strangler plant. Cleopatra is first introduced in the original Addams Family TV show, and she appears periodically throughout the franchise.

Moriticia raised Cleopatra from the time she was a seedling, treating her like her own child, just like Wednesday and Puglsey (and the usually forgotten third child, Pubert). Cleopatra doesn’t usually eat people because they give her heartburn, but he does like to try to eat their ears. At one point, she had plant babies as well.

The carnivorous pet appears in the season 2 episodes “Hyde and Woe Seek” and “Woe Me The Money.” The family members are feeding her during a conversation. While she doesn’t get much time or attention, her presence helps Wednesday feel more like a family affair, rather than just a story about Wednesday Addams.

The Addamses Still Have Some Iconic Pets For Wednesday Season 3 To Introduce

The Addams Family Morticia Gomez Piranhas Tristan Isolde

Wednesday season 3, which is already confirmed, will likely add even more members of the Addams Family, since the creators promised to dig further into the family secrets. If they want to introduce more subtle characters who would be memorable but not take attention away from the story, they can add some of the iconic pets.

Wednesday’s piranha prank was a callback to Tristan and Isolde, but they weren’t the actual pets.

Some prime options are Tristan and Isolde, the pet piranhas; Kitty Kat, the lion; and Aristotle, the octopus. However, another favorite of mine who would be great in Wednesday is Snappy the alligator. Any of these iconic Addams Family pets could continue to expand the world and characters of Wednesday.
