Warning: Spoilers ahead from The Night Agent season 3.
The Night Agent season 3 has arrived on Netflix with Peter Sutherland taking on his latest life-threatening mission. Between delving into the seedy underground of the money world, finally facing The Broker, and even encountering an unexpected twist from his new partner, Peter had one wild ride this season. Unfortunately, that wild ride didn’t include Rose by his side.
Following The Night Agent season 2 release on Netflix last year, actress Luciane Buchanan later confirmed that she wouldn’t be returning as Peter’s girlfriend and de facto investigative partner Rose Larkin. The news hit fans rather hard, especially those who are rooting for Peter and Rose’s romance to make it through all of these dangerous missions to a happily ever after.
However, Rose doesn’t appear in season 3, which was expected going into the season. She was still mentioned heavily throughout the episodes, as Peter’s time apart from her weighs on his heart. He still has regrets, but knows that she’s better off, and safer, with distance between them. She’s back home in California, but will we ever see her again in the series?

Why Rose isn’t in The Night Agent season 3, explained
As The Night Agent creator Shawn Ryan explained to Deadline, Luciane Buchanan’s exit from the series had to do with creative reasons. When he and the writers were crafting the storyline for season 3, they couldn’t find a direction for Peter and Rose that rivaled the stories of the first two seasons. Being so, they explored other options that excluded Rose, and that’s what we see in season 3.
“I love Luciane as an actress, I love her as a person, and if and when we have the right storyline for her, we’ll beg her to come back to the show. But in this case, we came up with the idea of Isabel as Jacob Monroe’s estranged daughter, the financial world, which is not Rose’s world at all,” Ryan said.
The showrunner also revealed that he spoke with Buchanan after season 2 about his decision to write Rose off in season 3 and expressly insisted that this didn’t mean Rose would be removed from the world of the show forever. But it did mean that Buchanan was released from her contact for The Night Agent, meaning that any future reappearances would require Buchanan’s agreement. Hence why Ryan stated that he would “beg” the actress to return to reprise her role.

Luciane Buchanan open to coming back as Rose
Thankfully, fans can rest easy knowing that Buchanan opened up to Deadline in September 2025 about her hope to return as Rose in future seasons, whether it’s for a full season or a little cameo to wrap up her storyline. Like Ryan, she hasn’t completely shut the door on a Night Agent comeback and even seemed eager to see what happens next for Peter and Rose.
“If there is an opportunity that makes sense to the story for her to come back, I’m sure they’ll explore that, because they really loved the dynamics of Peter and Rose, and I know a lot of audiences loved that dynamic. So I’m sure Shawn Ryan and his team will find a little way; maybe we’ll make a little cameo along the way,” Buchanan said.
While the series hasn’t been officially renewed for season 4 as of this writing, in late 2025, the series received a California tax credit, and Ryan confirmed that the season would take place in Los Angeles. Rose lives in the Bay area, which isn’t too far from LA and could potentially point to the possibility of her return in some form, but let’s not get too far ahead of ourselves just yet.
Just as Rose’s absence in The Night Agent season 3 was felt by viewers, series star Gabriel Basso also shared that he and those on set felt Buchanan’s absence, too. The actor revealed that he and his on-screen girlfriend remain good friends who “text every now and then,” and he even texted her while filming season 3. Hopefully, we will see them back in action on screen sooner rather than later.
