Austen was only seven years old at the time of Kyle’s tragic death. The trail they were hiking on was slippery due to the heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours. Kyle had moved far ahead of the group; before anyone realized it, she was outside the barricades. When the group noticed it, it was too late, and Kyle slipped about 200 feet. At the time of the incident, Austen felt it was “surreal” and didn’t fully understand what had happened to his sister. Austen thought Kyle would recover, and he and his parents would eventually bring his sister home. According to Distractify, the Kroll family had just moved to North Carolina before Kyle’s untimely death.

Austen Struggled To Cope With The Death Of His Sister

When the reality of the situation dawned on Austen at such a young age, it became difficult for him to cope at times.
