Whispers In The Well – Release Date, Pre-Release, Cards, & Set Details

The tenth set of Disney’s trading card game, Disney Lorcana: Whispers in the Well, is going to launch soon for both eager collectors and strategic players to start exploring their new cards. This time, we will see new characters joining the ranks from franchises such as Gargoyles and The Black Cauldron, as well as some novel game mechanics to change things up. Two new Iconic cards are also being introduced, which will surely be the crown jewels of any collection.

The previous Disney Lorcana: Fabled expansion brought The Goofy Movie and Dumbo to Lorcana, but also received a lackluster response because so much of the set was made up of reprinted cards. Of course, this was due to the new set rotation policy, which went into effect and made many of the earlier sets not eligible for competitive play unless the cards were reprinted.

Although Whispers in the Well will also include at least a couple of reprints, the percentage of reprinted cards in this set will be significantly lower, to the relief of players and collectors everywhere. This set is sure to be an exciting one as it progresses the main narrative of the game and adds so many new cards.

As is the usual format for Disney Lorcana, the new Whispers in the Well set will release first in select locations, including at local game stores and Disney Parks, a week before launching in mass market locations. This first pre-release launch will take place on November 7, 2025, followed by the larger release on November 14, 2025.

Products included in this set include an Illumineer’s Trove, booster packs, booster boxes, two single-player starter decks, as well as playmats featuring Mickey Mouse and Jasmine. The pre-made single-player decks for Whispers in the Well feature one for Sapphire and Steel inks and one for Amber and Emerald inks.

If there is to be an extra item, such as a Gift Set or other collectors’ items, as has been the case with many of the previous sets, it has not been officially announced yet, as of the time of writing.

New Glimmer Character Type Coming With Whispers In The Well

The most exciting change coming with Whispers in the Well is the reveal of the new Boost ability and Whisper Glimmers. Disney Lorcana‘s storyline will involve a new type of glimmer coming into the arena, and these whisper glimmers are reflected in many of the new cards for the set. Not only will the term be listed on the card, but whispers will feature a unique border design on their cards that makes them stand out.

The term glimmer has been used to explain how characters are called into existence by Illumineer’s using magical ink and is why there can be multiple forms of Mickey Mouse or other characters, as they are merely glimmers of that character. Each character card played in Disney Lorcana is a type of glimmer, with Storyborn, Dreamborn, and Floodborn being the known kinds until Whispers in the Well. Now, the Whisper glimmer is added as a new type of character.

A whisper variant of glimmer are more ethereal and only partially formed, having been summoned using a damaged page from a lorebook. So far, based on the cards that have been revealed prior to writing, these whispers all seem to utilize the new Boost ability to strengthen the cards.

The New Boost Ability Adds A New Game Mechanic

Abilities are important for planning your strategy when playing Disney Lorcana, and with Whispers in the Well, the new Boost keyword ability is introduced. From what has been shown so far, it appears that Boost means that “Once during your turn, you may pay X ink to put the top card of your deck facedown under this character” and is only seen on characters.

Boost values appear to be 1, 2, or 3, and there are many cards that feature abilities that can be used on any character that has Boost. Boosts to cards undoubtedly make the glimmers stronger, but until the set is more fully revealed, it’s hard to know exactly how they will be best used in play.

Confirmed Cards For Disney Lorcana: Whispers In The Well Include Two New Iconics

It will be interesting to see what the most valuable Lorcana cards from Whispers in the Well will turn out to be, but the two new Iconic cards will certainly be included. The Iconic rarity was first introduced in Fabled, and not only will there only be two types of Iconic rarity cards in each set, but they are also much more difficult to find and highly collectible.

For Whispers in the Well, the new Iconic cards include “Ariel – Ethereal Voice” and “Hades – Looking For A Deal”. While these Iconic cards are stunning in their artwork, the Enchanted cards for Whispers in the Well are also beautiful, such as the above shown “Demona – Scourge of the Wyvern Clan”, which is one of the first characters from Gargoyles to join Disney Lorcana.

Characters from The Black Cauldron and Gargoyles are making their debut in the game with this set, with Darkwing Duck and Toy Story characters coming soon in future sets.

The Story Of Disney Lorcana Continues With Whispers In The Well

Lorcana’s Overarching Narrative Adds Mystery

Often, the gameplay of Disney Lorcana can vastly overshadow the story behind the cards, but with each expansion set to the game, Ravensburger and Disney are slowly telling an epic tale where we, as Illumineers, are working to save the magical realm of Lorcana and the lore it protects.

With Whispers in the Well, we Illumineers will be traveling down into the presumably abandoned Inkwell Caverns underneath the Great Illuminary, through means of the Well. Down in these caverns are the pools of six magical inks that are used to create glimmers.

However, it appears that there are torn Lorebook pages down in this cavern, and detectives such as Basil of The Great Mouse Detective and Judy Hopps of Zootopia are on the case to see what is happening with these Whisper Glimmers and how they can be restored. Of course, many more answers and questions will likely be revealed once Disney Lorcana: Whispers in the Well is officially released, but it is exciting to see where the story is going.
