In a shock reveal, Marvel is jumping ahead 10 years in X-Men lore, revealing a dark future for iconic heroes Wolverine and Cyclops. The Age of Revelation is coming, and it’s set to change Marvel’s mutants in some huge ways.
The timeskip will apply to Marvel’s entire X-Men line for “the foreseeable future.”
Marvel Comics just announced details for the upcoming Age of Revelation event, beginning with X-Men: Age of Revelation #0 and X-Men: Age of Revelation Overture #1. The story sees Revelation (aka the former hero Doug Ramsey) use his hypnotic voice to take over the planet, with classic X-Men members forming a Resistance team against his rule.
The timeskip will apply to Marvel’s X-Men line for “the foreseeable future,” with a huge host of new tie-in titles starring mutant heroes as well as Spider-Man, Deadpool, Iron Man and more. Cyclops is shown in a battered, post-apocalyptic costume, while Wolverine is shown wearing a metal skull mask and monk-like robes. X-Men: Age of Revelation #0 from Jed MacKay and Humberto Ramos is coming to comic stores next week, while MacKay and Ryan Stegman’s X-Men: Age of Revelation Overture #1 is coming October 1.

Age of Revelation Is Changing Everything About the X-Men
Marvel Is Looking to Recreate One of Its Most Iconic Events of All Time
In 1995, Marvel published the huge Age of Apocalypse event – a linewide story set in an altered timeline where Xavier’s death had led to the rise of Apocalypse. This time, Marvel is giving Apocalypse’s official replacement Revelation the same chance, as Doug Ramsey (aka Cypher) uses his new powers to create an apparent ‘mutant paradise’ at humanity’s expense.
However, this ‘paradise’ is built on a lie, with Cyclops, Beast, Magneto, Psylocke, Xorn, Glob and Jennifer Starkey (the heroes of Marvel’s current X-Men title) fighting back. Cover art suggests that Revelation may have turned Wolverine to his side, especially given Logan’s long history of being turned into a living weapon against fellow mutants. It’s clear that Age of Revelation will be incredibly ambitious, with 16 tie-in titles already announced, as shown below.

Inspired by Age of Apocalypse, Marvel Is Doing Something New
The original Age of Apocalypse was famous for its dark redesigns, turning Cyclops into an antihero and Wolverine into the deadly Weapon Omega. However, the big difference is that Age of Apocalypse was an alternate timeline, while Age of Revelation is the official future. These are the heroes that fans know from decades of reading comics, now thrown into a new world where Revelation has completely changed the Marvel Universe.
Marvel will be announcing new information about the Age of Revelation event in the coming weeks, as X-Men lore takes a major leap into the future, challenging Wolverine and Cyclops in a twisted new way.
X-MEN: AGE OF REVELATION #0 is coming July 16 from Marvel Comics, followed by X-MEN: AGE OF REVELATION OVERTURE #1 on October 1.
