Naomi Osaka vs. Karolina Muchova US Open match preview.

Today’s night session on Arthur Ashe will kick off with a highly anticipated showdown between four-time Grand Slam champion Naomi Osaka, and highlight-reel machine Karolina Muchova.

Osaka entered the final Grand Slam of the year fresh off an impressive run at the National Bank Open in Montreal, where she eliminated four top-20 players en route to the final, where she lost to teenage sensation Victoria Mboko.

Since arriving in Flushing Meadows, Osaka has continued to impress, dropping just one set across four matches.

On the flip side, Karolina Muchova struggled in tournaments leading up to the US Open, suffering a fourth-round loss to Madison Keys at the National Bank Open and a third-round loss to Varvara Gracheva at the Cincinnati Open.

Despite that, Muchova has been able to come up big when she needs it most over the past two weeks. In each of her four matches leading up to tonight’s quarterfinal clash, Muchova has gone all three sets, edging out wins over Venus Williams, Sorana Cirstea, Linda Noskova, and, most recently, Marta Kostyuk.

Osaka vs. Muchova H2H

Heading into today’s match, Naomi Osaka and Karolina Muchova are tied 2-2 in their head-to-head.

Osaka won their first meeting back at the 2020 Cincinnati Open in three sets, with Muchova then repaying the favor the following season in Madrid.

More recently, the two faced off in the Round of 64 at the 2024 US Open last year, with Muchova picking up a straight-set win over Osaka to advance to the third round.

In their most recent meeting, Osaka was able to pick up a big win at the Australian Open back in January, bouncing back from a 6-1 breadstick set in the first to beat Muchova in three.

As Muchova explained during her post-match press conference after her fourth-round win earlier in the week, it seems as though Naomi Osaka is playing some of her best tennis in years.

“She’s a great player. I think she picked up her form again and she’s getting better and better and you can see it on her results. We practiced here actually so I expect a really really tough battle and it’s going to be a challenge for sure.”

With both players eager to clinch a spot in the semifinals, expect these two stars to produce fireworks.
