Trae Young could benefit the Knicks now in a new way.
The Washington Wizards hosted the Utah Jazz in DC on Thursday, March 5.
For the first time, the star guard Trae Young played for the Wizards. The debut came roughly two months after the Wizards acquired Young from the Atlanta Hawks.
Seeing as though it’s been so long since Young had played, the star guard wanted to make his first game in front of a DC crowd as flashy as possible. There’s no denying that Young had some impressive moments.
NBA Fans Buzzing Over Trae Young’s Viral Play
“Nice to see him playing again,” an NBA fan said on Reddit.
“The Wizards TV production people are gonna have to figure out how to put sweet replay footage together. You can tell they’re still getting caught flatfooted a little by this no-look madness,” one fan stated.
“NGL this hurt more than I thought it would,” a suspected Hawks fan said.
“Hawks will regret dealing him. Yes he is an imperfect player who you need to cover defensively and build offensively around. But he is a necessary player to have to generate offense in the playoffs and he has proven able to. In the end, they didn’t want to pay him, which is fair. Trae could have been overrating his worth. Had he knows Wizards were the only buyers, I think he may have negotiated,” a fan theorized.

There was certainly more than an impressive no-look pass. Young established himself as one of the better scorers in the NBA when he’s available.
On Thursday, Young went 4-9 from the field, struggling with his three-point shot. He made just one of his five attempts from deep.
Young still managed to become one of seven Wizards to notch double-digit scoring on the night. He finished the game with 12 points.
Beyond his scoring, Young racked up six assists (three turnovers), came down with two rebounds, and snatched two steals.
“I definitely felt the energy tonight,” Young said after his first game with the Wizards.
“From all the fans, every time I would sit down or be in the game, check into the game, you felt it. That’s what I want here. I want the fans to feel involved, and to feel involved with part of our winning in the future. Even now, being a part of the growth and being a part of the young guys getting better. This is a part of the time where you get to see guys take the bumps and bruises. … As the years go on you get to see the fruits of that labor.”

Trae Young went out on a low note in Atlanta. Once recognized as the face of the Hawks’ franchise, the star guard couldn’t land an extension from the club before the start of the 2025-2026 NBA season.
As the season played out and injuries affected Young, the Hawks took calls on a possible trade. Now, he’s a member of the Wizards.
