Some were surprised when the Green Bay Packers selected offensive lineman Jordan Morgan in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Although left tackle is his natural position, Morgan has played 478 snaps at right guard, 256 at left guard, 148 at right tackle, and 51 at left tackle throughout his first two seasons in the league. That is in large part due to Rasheed Walker doing a good job of holding left tackle down over the past few years.

What to do With OT Rasheed Walker Named Green Bay Packers’ Biggest Roster Decision of the Offseason

Walker is set to become a free agent in March, and he should command a pretty hefty contract. Bradley Locker of Pro Football Focus recently identified each NFL team’s biggest roster decisions of the offseason, and he zeroed in on Walker for the Packers.

“After losing their final five games in 2025, the Packers enter this offseason looking to reclimb the NFC standings. Green Bay will have to navigate several notable free agents leaving, with Walker as a key decision.

A former seventh-round pick, Walker has steadily developed into a solid left tackle in Green Bay. Since 2023, he’s produced a 76.8 PFF pass-blocking grade, which ranks 17th among qualified tackles in that span — although that figure fell to 69.3 in 2025. On top of that, Walker has played at least 966 snaps over his first three campaigns, highlighting his durability at a premium position.

The Packers drafted Jordan Morgan two years ago, likely envisioning him taking over as the team’s long-term left tackle. But with how well Walker has performed and injuries harming the team’s offensive line last year, will Green Bay be content to let its left tackle walk?”

When you have a franchise quarterback like Jordan Love and a top tier running back in Josh Jacobs, it’s never a bad thing to over invest in the offensive line. However, Green Bay doesn’t have a lot of salary cap space to work with.

Packers Need to Trust Their Process

When the Packers drafted Morgan two years ago, the plan was clearly for him to eventually take over at left tackle. Morgan got the benefit of learning how to play other positions in the meantime, and general manager Brian Gutekunst believes that versatility will pay off.

“It would be ideal, but it’s unrealistic,” Gutekunst said last week when questioned about Morgan playing only at left tackle. “We’ll probably have to cross-train all these guys. Sometimes, if you can keep a guy on the side, left or right, it’s helpful for him a little bit. His versatility has certainly helped us, that was one of the reasons we were drawn to him in the draft. His ability to play all those spots has been a benefit.”

Morgan has played well in his limited reps at left tackle, including during a Week 18 start against the Minnesota Vikings. It is crucial that the Packers trust in their vision and not put themselves in a tough situation with the salary cap.
