Patrick Mahomes and Brittany Mahomes are responding to the big news that Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift are engaged.
Even amid this being a huge day in the NFL, with teams making roster cuts and finalizing their 53-man rosters, Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs and Taylor Swift took the spotlight and announced they they are officially engaged. The two had been a couple for nearly two years, and they decided that now would be the right time to take the next step and announce that they’re getting hitched.
Swift and Kelce shared the news in an Instagram post on Tuesday, August 26. In the post, the couple captioned it, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” and displayed a bevy of beautiful photos of Kelce and Swift getting engaged in a colorful garden. Ever since Kelce and Swift started dating, they’ve seemed to be totally in love, so the engagement shouldn’t come as a surprise, but it kind of does, because nobody knew it was happening so quickly.
Now, sports personalities and other celebrities are congratulating Kelce and Swift, including some of Kelce’s teammates. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes and his wife Brittany have sent out their well wishes for the couple, too.

Following the happy news, Brittany took to her Instagram stories to share a five-word response to the engagement. “Just so happy for these two,” she said. Here’s her full statement on Instagram: “Two of the most genuine people meet and fall in love. Just so happy for these two.”
Patrick also shared some congratulations on his Instagram stories. He kept it simple and just shared Swift and Kelce’s post with three red heart emojis.
Kelce’s teammate Mike Danna was also asked about the engagement when he was speaking with the media on Tuesday. “Man, it’s incredible, great for them,” he said. “Anytime you find that joy, happiness, it’s a beautiful thing. I just got told 30 seconds ago. That’s a beautiful thing to see.”
Kelce and Swift started dating in the summer of 2023, so they’re going to be celebrating their two-year anniversary as a couple soon. What better way to celebrate than by getting engaged?
Taylor Swift is Having a Banner Year
The news comes at good timing, because Swift appeared on Travis Kelce and his brother Jason’s podcast, “New Heights,” just about a week ago. Swift is also coming off the news that she’s gotten her masters back, which she announced in May with an Instagram message. “You belong with me.”
She added, “I almost stopped thinking it could ever happen, after 20 years of having the carrot dangled then yanked away. But that’s all in the past now. I’ve been bursting into tears of joy at random intervals ever since I found out that this is really happening. I really get to say these words: All of the music I’ve ever made… now belongs… to me.”
So, between getting engaged, getting her masters back and announcing a new album, this is a banner year for Swift. We here at Heavy Sports wish this rock star couple all the best.
