A popular activewear brand has announced its shock closure, just months after collapsing with crippling debts of $13million owed to creditors.
Exoticathletica, an online Australian activewear label, was founded by Leilani Chandler in Noosa in 2014, offering boldly printed, vibrant workout clothes for women of all shapes and sizes.
The homegrown brand was so popular that it sold more than 140,000 ultra-comfortable crop tops in one year, reporting $7million in sales.
But after a decade, the team behind Exoticathletica has revealed it’s closing its doors for good on Sunday, November 16.
‘After 10 wild, messy, fabulous years of leggings, crops, and chaos… it’s time for us to say something we never thought we would: Exotica is closing,’ the team said.
‘We built this brand for women who dare themselves, who sweat, laugh, cry, and strut in every shape and size imaginable. And wow – you did just that.
‘We’ve loved watching you own your bodies, your moves, and your boldness. You made it bigger, louder, and wilder than we ever imagined.’
In an emotional post, the brand expressed its gratitude to everyone – including their ‘ride-or-die’ customers, creators and ‘absolute legends’ of a team.

‘Thank you for every story, every post, every cheer, every ‘yes you can’. You made Exotica unforgettable,’ they said.
‘Will we miss you? Absolutely. Are goodbyes messy? You bet.’
Exoticathletica ended its farewell message by sharing details about its closing down sale, with everything on its website selling for $10 or less.
‘Are the last pieces worth grabbing? Hell yes,’ the team said.
‘So grab a fave, grab a memory, and let’s end this 10/10 style. Because darling, if we’re going out… we’re going out sassy, sweaty, and unforgettable.
‘Forever bold, the Exotica team.’
Fans of the brand are devastated by the news, with many sharing they have been ‘living’ in their Exoticathletica activewear for years.
‘Exotica has been my entire wardrobe for many years now. The quality is unmatched. I wish you all the very best in your new chapters. Thanks so much for creating such a pivotal and inclusive label – it really has been appreciated,’ one revealed.

‘Devastated you guys are closing… Just love so many of your clothes and sad I won’t be able to buy them anymore. Thank you for making so many gorgeous pieces of clothing that are in my closet! You will be missed by many,’ another explained.
‘I’m so sad to hear this. My Exotica gym wear is my favourites to wear. So comfy, so fun, nothing else out there is like Exotica,’ one shared.
‘That’s a real loss to the Aussie brand landscape. I’m so sorry to hear this. I hope you folks find something new,’ another said.
‘Devastated is an understatement. I hope there is a future… as we need this brand. As a loyal customer of years and years I’m going to struggle to find good gym clothes without Exotica. Hope there’s a comeback,’ one added.
‘What a shame,’ another suggested.
The shock announcement comes just six months after reports emerged the brand had accumulated debts of more than $6.2million, including $800,000 to the Australian Tax Office.
Back in May, it was reported that the brand owed $6.7million to the Commonwealth Bank. Customers were reportedly owed $172,576 while employees were owed $416,447, including $37,733 in superannuation.
