Prince Harry has appeared in a new promotional video for the upcoming 2023 WellChild Awards

Prince Harry has paid tribute to carers and nurses amid the cost-of-living crisis as he urged people to nominate loved ones for a WellChild award.

The Duke of Sussex, 38, has been a patron of the UK-based charity for the past 15 years and appeared in a promotional video for their upcoming awards this afternoon.

The father-of-two, who now lives in Montecito, California, was dressed casually in a white button-down shirt as he filmed the short 90-second clip earlier this month.

During his time working with the charity, the royal said he’s been ‘immensely grateful’ for the work they do to provide support for seriously ill children and their families in the UK.

He said: ‘For children and people with complex medical needs, WellChild provides access to high quality care services and the opportunity to thrive at home alongside their families.

‘WellChild also provides a network of support for families who are facing countless medical, logistical and mental health challenges; compounded by a cost of living crisis that adds tremendous pressure in caring for the children who are dependent on life-saving equipment.’

He then went on to pay tribute to carers and health professionals who also work closely with families that  are being supported by the charity.

Harry added: ‘I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention the carers and health professionals, doctors, nurses, teachers and play specialists and many many more who are part of the WellChild family as well.

‘They deliver life-changing support each and everyday.’

Touching on the cost-of-living crisis, he continued: ‘Despite facing immense challenges, WellChild families continue to display a resilience and fortitude that is nothing short of inspiring.’

The Duke ended the video by urging viewers to nominate ‘someone in their lives who they find inspiring’ for a WellChild Award – with the ceremony due to be held later this year.

The categories  include ‘Inspirational Child or Young Person’, ‘Caring Child/Young Person’, ‘Outstanding Professional’ and ‘Inspirational Parent/Carer’.

Harry added: ‘Each year, I so look forward to meeting with the award winners and spreading awareness about this incredible charity.

‘I hope this year you’ll join me and get involved.’

The charity then captioned the video: ‘Our Patron Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex, joins the call for nominations for the 2023 WellChildAwards  in association with GSK.

‘Each year, we celebrate the UK’s inspirational seriously ill children, young people & those who care for them.’

WellChild is the national charity for seriously ill children and their families. Over 100,000 children and young people are living with serious and complex health conditions.

Many require round-the-clock support and can spend months, if not years, in hospital because there isn’t the support to get them home.

Through a nationwide network of WellChild Children’s Nurses, home makeover projects and family support programmes, WellChild works to give this growing population of children and young people the best chance to thrive – properly supported at home, together with their families.

WellChild was one of the four charities chosen by The Duke and Duchess of Sussex to benefit from the generous donations made by the public on the occasion of the birth of their son, Archie Mountbatten Windsor.

Last year, Prince Harry was forced to miss the WellChild Awards ceremony in London following the Queen’s passing in September.

His appearance in the WellChild video comes after Prince Harry was filmed alongside his wife attending Ellen DeGeneres and Portia De Rossi’s vow renewal in California earlier this month.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were seen whooping and cheering after Kris Jenner officiated the renewals, which surprised the former talk show host.

Harry and Meghan were at opposite ends of the group, which included Brandi Carlile, and other friends and family of the celebrity couple.
