One of the biggest offseason decisions facing the Los Angeles Rams is no longer flying under the radar heading into the offseason. For all of the talk about upgrading at cornerback, the Rams face a significant decision at safety regarding Kamren Curl.

The Rams’ offense drew most of the headlines this past season, ranking No. 1 overall and in scoring while boasting the MVP in quarterback Matthew Stafford.

But the Rams’ defense held its own more often than not, and Curl was integral to that.

Rams Urged to Make Decision on Kam Curl

Curl, who turns 27 in March, is coming off his second season with the Rams. He finished the campaign with 122 total tackles, surpassing the century mark for the second time in the last three seasons.

Turf Show Times’ Blaine Grisak lobbied for Curl’s return in free agency this coming offseason.

“If there is one player that the Rams bring back this offseason, really hope they find a way to re-sign Kam Curl,” Grisak posted on X on February 18. “Was one of the best safeties vs. the run last season. Price needs to be right and that’s complicated w/[Quentin] Lake extension. Hope they can work something out.”

Grisak is not alone in his thinking, with the current expected market less than enticing in the face of keeping Curl in the mix.

“Looking at the safety market I don’t think it makes any sense for the #Rams to move on from Kam Curl,” “Downtown Rams” host Jake Ellenbogen posted on X on February 17. “I think his season gets overshadowed. He had a very good season. No one played more snaps than him. His tackling numbers are also outrageous. Only guy I like besides him is Bryan Cook. I still prefer bringing back Curl for sure.”

Underdog Sports’ Sosa Kremenjas posted contract projections for Curl, including The Athletic projecting $65 million over four years, noting that he did not “think the Rams are bracing for him to come back. He should have a nice market in FA.”

The Rams also have 2024 third-round pick Kamren Kinchens.

Curl is coming off a two-year, $9 million contract with the Rams, giving him $16.4 million in career earnings. Spotrac projected Curl could command up to $10 million annually.

Spotrac also projected a potential four-year, $40.2 million pact for Curl in free agency.

The Rams are in good shape financially. Over The Cap projected they have $44.9 million in room before making any other moves. Some of those moves could eat into that flexibility moving forward.

Moreover, the Rams’ investment in Lake–who received a three-year, $38.2 million extension during the season–could mean the writing is on the wall for Curl.

Curl’s market will take shape once the offseason begins, if the Rams fail to reach a deal to keep him in LA. However, there are already suggested landing spots emerging.

The Chicago Bears, whom the Rams defeated in the NFC Divisional Playoffs, are one of them.

“Both of Chicago’s starting safeties … are free agents, opening up some spots,” ESPN’s Matt Bowen wrote on February 17. “Curl (who had two picks with the Rams in 2025) can play as an interchangeable safety and improve the Bears’ run defense.”

Curl, the 216th overall pick of the 2020 draft by the Washington Commanders, is heading for a significant payday this offseason, even if it does not ultimately come from the Rams.
