It wasn’t a major assault, but it sure was an unreasonably aggressive and definitely unwarranted attack on a person just asking him questions about politics.
Moulton, one of the slimiest and slipperiest Democrats, cut from the Dan Goldman, Eric Swalwell mold of sleazebag Organized Crime Democrats, wasn’t having it when a Fox News reporter asked him if he endorses Graham Platner in Maine.

It’s a perfectly reasonable question, although obviously an uncomfortable one. They are each running for Senate from New England states, and Platner is the most prominent Democratic Senate candidate out there, for good or ill. Democrats from around the country have been put into a corner, either defending Platner or distancing themselves from him, so any politician should be able to easily answer that question.
It’s not exactly off the cuff. No doubt the response to it was gamed out in campaign meetings early.
Moulton is trying to unseat Massachusetts Senator Ed Markey, a fellow Democrat, and is reportedly having a difficult time. Perhaps that is why he is so snippy.
Snippy, yes, but not sorry. Rather than apologizing for knocking the phone out of the hands of the reporter, his campaign hit back hard at Fox News.
The Moulton campaign claims the unnamed person is with the political action committee America Rising, which conducts opposition research on Democratic candidates.
“It’s not surprising that Fox is too scared to invite Seth back on their shows, but they’re happy to pay a MAGA tracker with America Rising to harass him at multiple events across Massachusetts,” Moulton campaign Communications Director Taylor Hebble told the Herald in a written statement. “Seth takes on MAGA anywhere, anytime, and won’t back down. If this tracker can’t handle a reality check or hold onto his own equipment, that’s on him.”
Moulton has recently participated in the first-ever interparty primary debate with Republican candidate John Deaton and has several upcoming debates scheduled against Markey.
You have to admire Moulton for getting into the spirit of the new Democratic Party, which has embraced violence far more dangerous than this. Since getting arrested for a serious assault would be bad for the general election, he chose the more moderate path, showing his base that he is willing to strike out in defense of democracy, while avoiding any prison time for doing so.
Prison might have been good for his prospects in the primary, of course, but it would play badly in Western Massachusetts.
Moulton has been having a difficult time adjusting to the new, more radicalized Democratic electorate. While hardly a moderate, he put his finger to the wind after the 2024 election and decided the trans moment was over, and tried to join the 80%.
That failed badly, so he wound up backtracking. Following the wind was as attractive to Democratic voters as Eric Swalwell’s tactic of breaking wind.
