Former New England Patriots tight end, Rob Gronkowski is an elite tight end, but some will perhaps question his judgement as an NFL analyst after his latest prediction.

Speaking to Kay Adams on Tuesday, Gronk stated that he is picking the – wait for it – Detroit Lions to win the Super Bowl this coming season.

Patriots Legend Predicts The Lions Will Take It All

“The Detroit Lions – that’s who I’m picking to win the Super Bowl, the Detroit Lions” Gronkowski said to Kay Adams.

The four-time Super Bowl champion did stipulate that they could face some stiff competition right at the end from another team yet to have a notch on their championship belt, the Buffalo Bills, although he ultimately re-affirms that, in his eyes, Detroit are the most likely World Champions come February 2026.

“But also they’re going to face the Buffalo Bills and it’s going to be a first champion Super Bowl win for either of the organizations. But I think the Detroit Lions pull it off. ”

Gronk also attributes much of the team not having their way and securing a historic first Lombardi Trophy for the franchise came down to the team losing multiple starters and key players – fourteen – on defense – later on in the year, prior to the playoffs.

“Last year the Lions in my eyes were in the lead to win it all. But when you have 14 guys go down from injuries, you have no chance at winning a Super Bowl. And the Philadelphia Eagles, they had 21/22 starters for the Super Bowl game. So that’s why its so hard to pick who is going to make the Super Bowl but….I’m going with the Detroit Lions versus the Buffalo Bills.”

Rob Gronkowski Has Lions Facing Off Against Division Rival

Despite the Bills having been one of the more competitive football teams in the NFL over the past half decade and more under the tandem of quarterback, Josh Allen and head coach, Sean McDermott, Buffalo has yet to make a Super Bowl since the Jim Kelly days in 1993.

Detroit, on the other hand, has never made a Super Bowl game, and their 2023 NFC Championship appearance marked just their second conference championship game appearance since the AFL/NFL merger.

Interestingly, Gronkowski did not want to play favorites in selecting his old AFC team – the Patriots – and his ex NFC team – the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as the two championship game winners, despite both being on the up.

Many have viewed Mike Vrabel’s team as an AFC dark horse heading into the season, where an improved offense has been set up to attempt to get the most out of talented young signal caller, Drake Maye’s talents.

Evidently the four-time All-Pro and five-time Pro Bowler will need more convincing yet that the team has turned around enough from the 4-13 debacle it was in 2024, to a stable, competitive organization now in 2025.

But, hopefully for Pats fans, the time in post-Brady, post-Belichick wilderness is over, and the team can go back to the winning ways its been used to over the course of the 21st century.
