Ryan Reynolds recalled how be brought in Gwyneth Paltrow for an Astronomer ad shortly after the Coldplay kiss cam scandal.
Back in July, then-Astronomer CEO Andy Byron and former HR executive Kristin Cabot were caught in an embrace on the kiss cam amid Coldplay’s Boston concert.
In a moment that went viral, the pair quickly ducked away from the camera, prompting singer Chris Martin to joke to the crowd from the stage that they could possibly be having an ‘affair.’
Both Byron and Cabot left the tech company, with Paltrow – who was previously married to Martin – appearing in the one-minute PSA only days later in a humorous PR crisis move.
Reynolds – whose own company Maximum Effort was involved in the ad – opened up about how it came to be during a Q+A session at Wall Street Journal’s CMO Council Summit, per People.
‘Just 14 hours later, I’m paying for that, [and I didn’t] have their blessing yet, but I [knew] that nobody at that time… knew what Astronomer does. So I was like, “What if Gwyneth explained it?”‘ the star, 49, said.

‘It turns out, Astronomer’s an amazing company. They really do some amazing stuff,’ the Deadpool actor explained.
The tech company ’empowers data teams to bring mission-critical software, analytics, & AI to life,’ according to the official website.
Reynolds added that ‘it was a real opportunity for them to take the conversation away from where it was, which was quite toxic, I think, and really focus on something that mattered in a way that was fun and easy and emotional and lovely.’
In the PSA, Paltrow could be seen sitting at a desk as the ‘temporary spokesperson’ while corporate music quietly played in the background.
The clip kicked off with the Oscar winner saying, ‘Thank you for your interest in Astronomer. Hi, I’m Gwyneth Paltrow.
‘I’ve been hired on a very temporary basis to speak on behalf of the 300 plus employees at Astronomer.’
She continued, ‘Astronomer has got a lot of questions in the last few days, and they wanted me to answer the most common ones.’
A question then appeared on the screen which read, ‘Q: OMG! What the actual f***,’ before swiftly cutting back to Paltrow.

The actress then said, ‘Yes! Astronomer is the best place to run Apache Airflow.’
She then humorously referenced to the attention the company had garnered since the scandal and added, ‘We’ve been thrilled to see so many people suddenly interested in data workflow automation.’
Another question appeared on the screen and read, ‘Q: How is your social media team holding-.’
The video quickly jumped back to Paltrow who lightheartedly said, ‘Yes! There is still space available at our Beyond Analytics event this September!’
In conclusion, she expressed, ‘And now, we’ll return to doing what we do best… delivering game-changing results for our customers. Thank you for your interest in Astronomer.’
Pete DeJoy – who is now the current CEO and co-founder of Astronomer – referenced to the scandal as he stepped into the position.
‘The spotlight has been unusual and surreal for our team and, while I would never have wished for it to happen like this, Astronomer is now a household name,’ he wrote in a statement.
‘I’m stepping into this role with a wholehearted commitment to taking care of our people and delivering for our customers. Astronomer’s foundation remains strong, built around the thriving Apache Airflow community.’

Most recently following the scandal, Bryon sold his four-bed luxury Tribeca mansion he owned with his wife, Megan.
The new owners, who are corporate lawyers according to Crain’s, signed the purchase contract in mid-September, and the deal was closed by early November.
The apartment was never publicly listed for sale, and according to the deed, Andy and Megan are still married. Currently, they are living in Massachusetts, according to the filing.
Megan switched to her maiden name Kerrigan on social media and fled the marital home in Northborough, Massachusetts.
In late September, the couple were spotted for the first time in months on relaxed outings together near their coastal hideaway in Maine – and notably still wearing their wedding bands.
Around the same time, a source close to Kristin Cabot insisted there was ‘no affair’ between her and Byron and that the only ‘inappropriate’ thing that occurred was their hug.
The unnamed source told People: ‘Kristin and Andy [Byron] had an excellent working relationship, a great friendship. There was no affair.’
The source insisted that while she accepted ‘full responsibility’ for the ‘inappropriate’ embrace between her and her then-boss; the loss of her job and public shaming as a ‘homewrecker’ had been ‘unfair.’

A source also revealed that Cabot’s husband Andrew Cabot, 61, the chief executive of Privateer Rum, was at the same Coldplay concert on a date with a woman who is now his girlfriend.
The source said the Cabots, whose marital home is in Rye, New Hampshire, had been amicably ‘separated and living apart for several weeks’ before the concert.
A spokeswoman for the businessman confirmed the pair were ‘privately and amicably separated several weeks before the Coldplay concert’ and ‘their decision to was already underway prior to that evening.’ The spokeswoman said no further public comment would be made.
On August 13, Kristin Cabot filed for divorce from her estranged husband at a court in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, but the former couple asked for the records to be kept private.
