Mel Gibson and Rosalind Ross are separating after nine years together.
“Although it’s sad to end this chapter in our lives, we are blessed with a beautiful son and will continue to be the best parents possible,” Gibson and Ross told People in a joint statement Tuesday.
The now-exes, who quietly ended their relationship about a year ago, plan to co-parent their 8-year-old son Lars.
In 2014, the duo met through mutual friends and started dating shortly after. Two years later, reports surfaced that they were expecting a child together.
The pair welcomed their son in 2017, just days before Gibson was nominated for the best director Academy Award for his 2016 film, “Hacksaw Ridge.”
“What could be more exciting than listening to the nominations being announced while holding my newborn son,” Gibson said in a statement at the time.
The duo kept their relationship largely out of the spotlight, though Gibson did walk the red carpet with Lars at a screening of Gibson’s “Monster Summer” in 2024.
In January 2025, the family tragically lost their $14.5 million Malibu home in the LA wildfires.
Gibson has eight other children with two other women.
He and his ex-wife Robyn Moore — who were married from 1980 to 2011 — share seven children: Hannah, 45, Christian, 43, Edward, 43, William, 40, Louis, 37, Milo, 35, and Thomas, 26.
He also shares 16-year-old Lucia with ex-girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva. He and the Russian musician dated for about three years until 2010.
This is a developing story…
